CHANGED AND TRANSFORMED

Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (Romans 12:2 NLT)

Changed; we go from lost to redeemed and darkness to light with a simple request. Of course we must see a need and have a desire for that change, but it is instantaneous. It is promised by God for all who will believe. In Romans we are told to be transformed. Just as we had to see the need and have the desire for change; we also must desire the transformation.
In the New Living Translation it says that we should allow God to transform us. Other translations tell us to present ourselves to God as a living sacrifice. No matter how you look at it, transformation is necessary for us to continue moving forward in the Kingdom of God.
If you have entered the transformation station, you know that it is an ongoing process. We have opportunities every day to be transformed. We basically trade what is not God, for what is God. In Psalms we are told of the table that is prepared for us. All of God’s things and ways are right there for us to pick up.
When a runner is in a marathon, there are stations along the way to run by and pick up things to sustain them in the race. It is the same in our transformation from our will to God’s. If we think it is not necessary to transform, we are only hurting ourselves.
Today on Super Bowl Sunday we could see players that once played on one team playing on the other team now. For them to properly perform, they must transform from the offense or defense of the previous team. They also must set aside old loyalties or it could be a problem. A defender could let someone go, or a quarterback could throw to their friend on the other team. This obviously would not be acceptable.
In the same way, it is not acceptable for us to refuse to change our behavior and attitudes when we change from unbelief to believing in the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The choice is obvious, but it is not always easy. Sometimes we don’t want to trade our way for God’s way. We convince ourselves that we have done enough, or that something is just too much to ask. Still, deep down there is a desire in every heart to be pleasing and perfect for God.
Contrary to what some may think God is not hard to please. Transformation simply requires a desire and willingness on our part. We can say we desire something, but if we are not willing to do what it takes to do it, it will not happen. Sometimes people when they are speaking of things they know they need to do will say that God will make them when He is ready. Well, He is always ready. We simply need to be willing. We all need more of God. Transform us oh Lord.
