CHOOSING A PART

But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles. (Acts 14:4 KJV)

Even with the Lord confirming His Word with signs and wonders, the people remained divided. Some preferred to hold on to the old way, which they saw as the safe way, and others allowed the truth to draw them to Jesus. Two thousand years later, people still have the same choices to make.

When it comes right down to it, we make our choices based on what we desire most. For instance, there may have been many in the crowd who said they really wished they could follow Jesus, but they were going to stick with what they had always done. So what was their real desire? Their real desire was not to grow or go with the apostles!

I have talked with people concerning salvation and had them tell me they really wanted to accept Jesus, but they had some other things to do, or someone else might not like it. The truth was that they just had other desires that came first.

This same thing can happen at any juncture along the way on our journey with Christ. God continually encourages us to draw closer to Him. In order to do this, what we know has to grow and become what we knew so that we can move to the next place God has for us. The foundation never changes; the temple just gets remodeled.

If we are going to continue to walk in the fullness of God we must be willing to move with the cloud. We can’t just stop at some point and decide that it is far enough. Israel did that in the desert and as a result only two people were allowed to enter the Promised Land.

When we choose what we know over what God is trying to show us we lose. Winning is not everything in the natural life, but it is the only thing when it comes to the Kingdom of God. We can never be satisfied to miss God. We should never allow ourselves to be so deceived that we say something God is doing is fine for someone else but we will just stop where we are.

People who are deceived into believing they have come far enough, often become big resisters to those who choose to move on. God has the same thing for them, but they don’t want it and they sure do not want anyone else to have it either. And so it is that they become divided.

The question for all of us is, “What part do you want?” My prayer from the day I came to know Jesus has been, “Lord don’t let me go back!” I am certain that I have gotten stuck in some places along the way and spun my wheels more can a couple of times, but the Lord is always faithful to pull me along. One thing I will not do it throw it in reverse when He is pulling me forward. Determine now to always choose the God part!
