CHOOSING LIFE
Today I am giving you a choice of two ways. And I ask heaven and earth to be witnesses of your choice. You can choose life or death. The first choice will bring blessing. The other choice will bring a curse. So choose life! Then you and your children will live. (Deuteronomy 30:19 ERV)
Life is full of choices. Every day, all day long, we make choices. Some seem huge, and others do not really even seem like choices because they are what we do almost automatically. Still, they are choices. Have you ever said that you did not mean to say something? Actually, you did mean to say it. You may not have thought before you spoke, or you may have spoken what you were thinking but you did not want to say it out loud. Still, somewhere along the line it trickled down from choices that have been made.
The scripture for today’s thoughts goes on to say that they need to love the Lord because He is the source of life. This is the choice that makes a difference in all the other choices we make. Choosing to love God aligns us with His influence on the other choices we make. Choosing not to love God opens the door for the enemy to influence our choices in the direction of the curse. Of course we must understand that when we do not choose to love God we automatically go to the default setting of choosing not to love God. There is no neutral. If we desire His blessings, then we must desire Him.
In the night I was considering the power of love and the power of hate. Have you noticed that you must choose to love? Hate with its friends of jealousy, bitterness, anger, and etc. will just flow without any thought whatsoever, but love is a choice. Life is a choice.
Then I thought about God’s choice in the Lamb of God. If you have been around sheep, you know that lambs are precious. When they sacrificed lambs in the Old Testament, they had to carefully inspect them in order to make sure there was no blemish of any sort. I imagined that process and how soft and gentle the little lamb was. After all that handling, it was even gentler and they grew even more attached. Then they would present and kill it. Wow! Imagine God and His Lamb, our savior. Oh how He loves you and me.
So, what will we choose? Will we choose life as we begin each day? Will we then allow that choice to influence the rest of our choices? We really could take a moment before we speak. We could choose not to speak until we have inspected our offering. You see they inspected their offering because they understood that blessings and curses were right at the door and that they would receive from the door they opened. We normally like to see who is at the door before we open it don’t we? Maybe we could learn to take a peek!
We have an offer from God to choose life; we would be wise to consider it. We would be blessed to do it. We can do it. The Lamb of God made the way for us. I love you Holy Lamb of God.
