CHOSEN

You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go... (John 15:16)

God chose to choose us and His choice cost Him His son. Jesus chose to come and pay the price and His choice cost Him the cross. Jesus chose us and our choice is to choose to be chosen. If we choose to be chosen He gives us life.

Jesus was pointing out to His followers that He had set everything in motion. He chose them and revealed to them the walk that was theirs to follow. He said that He chose them and appointed them to go! They were to be goers and doers. They were appointed to be movers and shakers. All they had to do was believe. Jesus was the first fruits. We are to follow the same path. He chose us to be goers.

The call is out. We need only to answer the call. A picture came to me of the football draft. The college season is coming to and end and with that comes the bowl games and the talk of the NFL draft. Certain players are expected to go at various levels in the draft and on the day of the draft it will be televised all over the world. They will have athletes sitting in their living rooms waiting to hear if they have been chosen. But it does not always end there. Sometimes an athlete is chosen by one team when they would rather be on another team. So, in essence they are chosen, but they don’t want to answer that call. They want to play somewhere else.

Sometimes the teams will work out a deal so that the player can go where they prefer to go and other times this does not happen so they spend a long time trying to come to terms on a contract. The point in this is that even though they are chosen, they choose to do something different.

The same can be said of the Kingdom of God. The Father put out a blanket call through Jesus Christ and everyone was selected in His draft. The negotiations are done on His part. The contract is perfect and the sky is the limit. In professional football, there will often be performance bonuses offered to players. In other words, they get their basic salary, plus the better they do, the more they get.

In a sense, God gives performance bonuses too. The more we believe the more we receive. If we believe that He heals we receive that performance bonus. If we believe He protects and provides we qualify for those bonuses as well. If we choose just to sit on the bench and do nothing, I guess God will decide about that. People can even decide to just not show up.

So then, we are chosen; what we choose to do with that is our call. Let’s be goers. Go deeper and deeper into the promises of God.
