CHOSEN BY GOD

This letter is from Paul, chosen by God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 1:1 NLT)

Paul was chosen by God when He was still Saul! When he was chasing down Christians he was marked for the Lord’s work. He could have rejected the call, but he didn’t. He could have shaken his fist in the face of God, but he didn’t. Instead he chose to call Him Lord.

God chose the whole world and sent Jesus to prove it! Now it is up to us to walk like we are chosen by God. I don’t know of anyone who received a 100% approval rating when they were chosen by God. I can assure you that I didn’t it. Christians and non-Christians alike were less that impressed, but not all. Some thought it was great! I for one was excited, even though I knew little of what was really going on.

I did not choose to do what I am doing. I know the statement of Jesus, “you did not choose me but I chose you and ordained you,” personally. If you think about it, the same is the case with you. You are chosen by God.

As I was reading Paul’s letters recently a thought went off in my head. I cannot say if it was a revelation or a clarification, but it excited me. Suddenly I understood a greater significance in the Paul’s ministry. You see he was truly like you and me. He never walked with Jesus. He never knew Jesus personally. As far as I know, He never touched Him or heard Him teach. He was apposed to everything Jesus stood for. Then one day that all changed when He recognized that Jesus was indeed the Lord.

Suddenly Saul’s whole life changed. Everything he was and everything he stood for went out the window and he began to declare Jesus as Lord. Did everyone approve of the change? Absolutely not! He became so caught up in the whole thing that he became a champion for the cause of Christ. He was so confident that he wrote letters to the churches to encourage them and share what God was speaking to Him. The Holy Spirit anointed Paul and the Holy Spirit in us bears witness with those writings.

God is still doing the same thing. There is only one Bible and there is only one Lord of the Bible. Every word was given to us to encourage, enlighten, and establish us in our faith. We then have an anointing to continue to speak. You are chosen by God to speak into people’s lives. Paul did not hesitate to tell people he was chosen by God and that He knew what God was saying. He also made it clear that there was still a lot to hear from God. He never knew he was writing the Bible. He was writing to encourage other believers. He was writing to share the goodness of God.

He was like you and me. He was an example to those who would believe without seeing. Read His letters like they are from another believer who wants to share what they have learned and what they hope for you to have. And if you will, accept the fact that just as God wrote to you through Paul, so you can write and talk by the same Spirit to others.
