CHRISTIAN LIVING
Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. (1 Peter 3:15 NLT)
Jesus Christ absolutely without a doubt is Lord. There is no God like our God. Blessed is the person, family, or nation whose God is the Lord. Unfortunately, even though He is Lord; we have the choice as to whether He is the Lord of our life or not. He will not Lord it over any one! But He has promised that He will come to all who ask, seek, and knock and they will not be disappointed. I might add that if we have an area of our lives where we feel disappointment in God, then we have found an area where He is not Lord of our life.
Peter tells us much about Christian living and how to go about it in his writings. He knew firsthand how important it was to stay focused on the things of God. After all, he was the first disciple to be rebuked for allowing satan to influence his thinking so much that he attempted to redirect what Jesus told him must happen. He was also the one who denied Christ three times. Needless to say, He had plenty of things to seek God about and find out how to avoid such things in the future.
It may be that because he tried to meddle in Jesus plans that he put being a busy body or one who meddles in other people’s business right in with murderers, thieves, and evil doers when he spoke of suffering as a Christian! The truth is that we often suffer more from our own failure to increase our Christian living than from anything else. Putting our old nature to death is a painful thing, but it is the only way for us to fully partake of the divine nature that Peter describes in the first chapter of 2 Peter.
Peter tells us that grace and peace are multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. (vs. 3) In verse 5 Peter begins to exhort us to add to our faith. In the natural we understand adding. We continually add to our possessions. We will add job so we can get more. People will work out to get more muscle. There is no limit to what people will do in order to add to their lives. Some will even steal to get more. While many things that people do in order to add to their lives are not necessarily bad, these are the very things that people use as an excuse not to add to their faith or even bother to explore faith in God for that matter.
It is because of this that it is so necessary that Christians cast aside the idea that they do not have time and put on Christ. Being completely convinced that the best thing we can do is increase our faith and trusting God to add all other things to us, we can build the hope that is in us and with that influence the kingdom around us for the Kingdom of God.
We need to extend our faith beyond agreeing that Jesus is Lord and devote ourselves to displaying that He is Lord of our lives. As some have pointed out there has been a pruning going on in the body of Christ in preparation for an unprecedented ingathering. People are looking for people with hope that works and lasts.
When the Lord returns, will He find faith in the earth? Does He see it now? Help us Lord!
