COME

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it.(Hebrews 4:16 NLT)

There is one thing that I have desired since I came to know God, and that is that I would never turn back. I have also maintained a desire to please Him and not to hurt Him. I am certain that I have fallen short of that on far too many occasions, but He is faithful even when I am not.

Today as I sought the Lord I was asking Him about how I should approach Him. I know the fear of the Lord is the beginning wisdom. I also know that we no longer come to a mountain that can not be touched. Proverbs and Hebrews remind me of these things. I also know from scripture that God is my father, and that I should come boldly, and well there are a lot different ideas about how to come to God. I would say the most important thing is that we come. We must come to God through the Lord Jesus Christ. He will then be our father and we will be His children.

Once again I told God that I just did not want to do anything that would hurt Him or displease Him in any way. So He put it on my heart to consider what things that I desire from my children. The first thing that came to my mind was how much I want them to be grateful. Thank you is a big word with me. I like to say it and I like to hear it. It really bothers me when they do not seem to appreciate what we do for them. God said, “That hurts me to.” God does so much for us, and we know that we should be constantly thankful, but do we forget. You know there are a lot of things that we should thank God for that we probably don’t think about. Last week I heard a man say we should thank God for the things that did not happen that could have. Thank Him that we did not have an accident, thank Him that we did not get ill and etc.

I also want my children to obey. I like my children to check in when they are gone, and to tell us where they are going before they leave. I like them to trust our judgment. Wow, as all these things came to my mind, I realized just how easy it really is to please God. If I will simply do the things that I want my children to do I will be well on the road. God likes us to check in. A quick hello and I love you once in while, combined with a thank you that all is going well, means more that we know. Of course there needs to be those times when step aside from everything with God as well. Sometimes I want to do things with my children, but they have other plans. Sometimes they might like to do things with me, and I have other plans. The nice thing with God is that He never has other plans. He always has time. He is waiting, We just need to come.

Another concern for me is how my children behave outside the home. If they are going to mess up, I prefer they do it at home. We can deal with that more easily. God wants us to represent Him properly in public as well. He does not want us to be hypocrites. He wants us to be what we say, in the church and out. People are watching. That is why it is important that we come to Him. Time with Him produces His Character in us. We need to be concerned that we rightly represent our Lord. If we come to Him and allow Him to change our hearts, and to transform us by renewing our minds, then we will not publicly shame Him.

As you seek the Lord, you will find many more things just as I did that will tell you what pleases God, because many of them are the very things that please you. He just asks that we come with sincere hearts and He will show us the way.
