COME NEAR TOGETHER
Let us come near together for judgment. (Isaiah 41:1a NKJ
If you are like me, you forget that God just likes to get together to talk once in a while! We all tend to look at prayer like it is some hard assignment and we often wonder if we ever do it right. We feel like we ask too much when we often ask too little. We feel like God is not interested in all the little things and we are not sure He will do the really big things. The truth is that there is nothing too big or too little. We really do accept that as a true statement, but we often find it hard to believe it is true for us personally. And so in the end, we rarely just come together with God for a chat because when we get there we spend all of our time trying to figure out how we should be doing it. Okay, does any of that sound familiar? If we can somehow get God’s perspective on things I believe we will be more comfortable and more successful in our relationship with God. After all, prayer is supposed to build us up…not wear us out!
In this scripture God is asking for a time together to consider how things are. God really does like us to just come to Him and tell Him what is on our mind. I have often heard people describe times of giving God a piece of their mind, which honestly makes no sense to me, and I don’t think it impresses God much either! He wants us to talk to Him about things and in so doing it will help us to bring things into proper perspective.
As we tell God how we see things, He can then shed His light on the subject. His light has a tendency to reveal the darkness for what it is and display His plans for a good outcome at the same time. It is kind of like facing a football team that has a great running back. That sounds like it could be long night until the coach points out that you have the two fastest and best tacklers in the area. What looked like a minus suddenly turned into a plus in your favor. The same is always true with God. We may only see the problem, but time with him reveals that He is bigger than the problem.
God wants us to come near to Him and remember what He has done until our confidence in what He is able to do rises to the take-over point. That is where confidence erases concern. In one place God asks if His arm is short or His eye blurry. In other words, what are you thinking? Have I become old and slow and unable to perform what I promise?
Coming near is entering into His presence. It is just being with Him. You know, He knows what is on your mind. He likes us to ask what He thinks, and then take the time to hear what He has to say. Read Isaiah 41 and allow God to plug your circumstances and His solutions into His word. Get ready to shout, as you understand what He’s talking about!
