COMMIT TO THE NEW

When anyone is in Christ, it is a whole new world. The old things are gone; suddenly, everything is new! (2 Corinthians 5:17 ERV)

When I gave in and upgraded to a smart phone, it was a serious transition. I had two choices; either commit myself to learn how to use the new device or reduce it to the uses I had used on my dumb phone and pay extra for nothing! Well I am still learning, but I am putting the smart part to as good of use as I can.

We also have a choice in our walk with God. We can enter into the new and continue to pursue the promises of God or we can just be new in the same place we were before. Just as refusing to use the smart phone would not change what it could and would do for someone who would use it, so it is with the Kingdom of God and His promises; His Word works, we simply have to commit to it.

I was thinking about how simply committing to what God says really does clear things up. As I thought this I had a picture of someone cutting through a jungle and clearing a path. I then heard, thought, or saw the cutting instrument as the word of God; the sword of the Lord. It is sharp and powerful. It is able to cut away the doubts and bring us to that clearing; that place of peace, comfort, confidence, and assurance.

Oh I have had many experiences with God doing just this for me. As I think of them, I realize that the jungle, the danger, the problems; just seem to be gone in the fog behind me but the presence of God I experienced is just as fresh as if it was moments ago.

There is a whole new world in Christ. In order to live in it, we must commit to a whole new way of thinking and being. It really boils down to what we want most. Really it does! If we will just give ourselves over to the reality of just how wonderful God is and His amazing love for us, that in itself clears the path. If we will not do this, then we are really lovers of ourselves. The Bible says that people will become lovers of self.

Think about it. If we say we know what God says but this is how it really is what are we saying? We are saying that we prefer what we think or say or feel to what God says is real. So we need to change our thinking and saying to God’s new world by choosing to declare to God that His will, ways, and plans are much better than we have been thinking and that we are committing to the new.

Yes commitment stays the course. This thought caused me to wonder how many times I turned around or abandoned a prayer or situation because of how it looked or seemed when really all I needed to do was cut through. Funny thing about that is that often when we do it, we comfort ourselves with allowing God to comfort us and excuse ourselves by blaming God. We say it just must not have been His will. How often do we stop what God was doing by choosing not to stay the course?
