COMMITMENT COMMUNION CONVENIENCE

We beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God's kindness and then ignore it. (2Corinthians 6:1)

Our walk with God is a commitment. He desires that it be communion with Him. He wants to be our all not just an occasional convenience. Remember, Jesus called the disciples friends and said that it should the same with everyone who believed.
We need to know him so well that we cannot treat Him as a casual friend. In fact, as we know Him better, we cannot help but connect with Him about everything. We need Him. We need Him more that we know. We need His closeness. We need His encouragement. We need His strength. We need to understand that there is no limit to His love for us and that loving Him back in the same way is what He desires most.
Jesus gave us what the church calls an ordinance when He broke the bread and passed the glass. It was not intended to be an ordinance of convenience like it is often treated. It was and is a close personal encounter that was to stir more closeness. It was communion between Jesus and those who partook. Unfortunately, in many instances it has become a convenience.
Conveniences are things that we want, but they do not really mean much to us. We like to be able to start the coffee, but we do not get excited about the convenience of electricity or the running water or the grinder until they do not work and then we are only concerned about our own inconvenience.
God forgive me for ever treating you as a convenience. Has God ever been more of convenience to you? You know, like when you need a prayer answered and it would be really good if He did and then He did and it was good and He was back on the shelf. For a good share of my life he was way in the back on the shelf and I expected Him to make the move to the front when I had a need. Oh my how blind we can be.
Paul begs the people not to ignore the wonderful gift they have received. God calls out to us for communion. He calls out to us for closeness. In Micah 6:3 God said, “Oh my people, what have I done to you? What have I done to make you tired of me? Answer me!” It just makes me so sad to read those words.
Never grow tired of seeking God. Never grow tired of time with Him. Spend enough time with Him so that you cannot stand to be away from Him. Develop that closeness; He has it down pat and is prepared to lead us into the kind of communion that overflows in our lives.
Today as we pray for the victims of hurricane Harvey, let us pray from a commitment of deep communion with our Lord. Lord draw us closer to you and to one another in Jesus Name.
