COMMITTED
They brought the animals to him and threw their garments over the colt, and He sat on it.
(Matthew 21:7 NLT)
As we approach the time of the celebration of the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, we see an increase of religious activity throughout the body of Christ. This is good as long as it is not just a seasonal thing. It should be a time of increasing our faith and our commitment that does not dwindle to the point that we find ourselves right back where we were before Christmas, the other holiday that stirs up religious activity. Please understand that I love Christmas and Easter, but I don’t like them to be seasonal fads in the lives of those who declare a commitment to the Lord Jesus.
For this reason, I have approached this time with an attitude that we should use it to increase our commitment and stir up the love of the Lord to yet a higher level and then to be determined that in a year we will not be wearing down, but rather that we will accelerating daily into what the Lord has planned for our lives.
When Jesus sent the disciples for the colt, he was committing Himself the plan of His Father. He knew that the religious leaders in Jerusalem wanted to kill Him and they were going to succeed. He knew it was not going to be easy or fun, but He was committed. So they brought Him the colt, and He sat on it. This of course was a miracle in itself. I have personally never tried to ride a donkey that had never been ridden before, but I do remember getting on a donkey that was supposed to be broke to ride and getting more of a ride than I had planned on. I look at this as a miracle from God to confirm for Jesus that all was going according to plan.
Sometimes things come up in our lives with the Lord that look and feel like trying to get on a wild colt. As a result, we back away from what God wants. The problem with that is that we will never see the life and the glory that God has planned for us at the end of the ride. Getting on that donkey was the beginning of the end of the old covenant and start of the new and better covenant. That donkey brought Jesus one-step closer to the glory that God intended Him to have.
The same is true for us. We must be committed to the will of God. We must trust Him to know what He is doing. Even if it looks like it could be a wild ride, we can be confident that the Lord who plans things can see them through. I wonder how many times I have stood and not moved forward because I did not trust God to take care of things.
I believe the colt is ready to take us each to deeper place in our relationship with the Lord. I believe there are miracles ready to happen and that there are religious bondages ready to be cleared out to make way for the glory that God has prepared. No doubt some things will die in our lives, but the resurrection to the abundant life Jesus promised here and now will be well worth the commitment. We need only to trust Him.
