COMPROMISE OR CONTINUE
They encouraged them to continue in the faith, reminding them that we must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God. (Acts 14:22 NLT)
Why does it seem easier at times to compromise rather than continue in our faith? Compromise just seems like the logical choice in so many instances. After all, we might offend someone if we stand strong for Kingdom principles; the cost is just more than what seems reasonable. After all, God knows what it is like.
Does this sound familiar? Contrary to some popular thinking, rules are not made to be broken! Day in and day out, we come to places where we must decide to continue in the faith or to compromise. Supernaturally, we desire to continue but our flesh leans toward compromise. Some of our greatest suffering is found in these crossroads.
Unfortunately, God has given us free will. We decide whether or not we will compromise. Compromise always leads to suffering in one form or another. As lovers of God, we hate it when we compromise after we have compromised, but at the time it was just the most convenient thing to do. Of course in the end it was not convenient at all. Remember Paul’s words pertaining to this situation. He found himself doing what he did not want to do and not doing what he wanted to do. The solution is found only in the person of Jesus Christ.
We must continue in Him. We can recover from compromise. We can handle the suffering of giving up our own ways for the Kingdom of God. We can keep our eyes on Jesus and when we do, we see that the Kingdom of God is much greater and more desirable than the convenience of compromise.
Yes, compromise often seems to be the attractive choice. There are a multitude of reasons that go through our minds, but while those thoughts flood our minds there is one simple word that stands against it and that word is Jesus. The Holy Spirit keeps His name always before us.
It is like there are two signs at each cross road. One says Jesus and the other says compromise. Holy Spirit says, “Continue in the faith.” Our flesh says that it just too hard sometimes.
We all have areas where it is easy and areas where it is hard. Jesus said it would not necessarily be easy. We must however encourage one another to continue. We can help others be strong where we are strong and receive from others in areas where we are weak.
It is up to us to commit to always continue in our faith. Sometimes we will make that decision on the back side of compromise and other times we fight the good fight and continue without compromise. It takes commitment to continue.
