CONFUSING OPTICS

I know what it is like to need things. I also know what it is like to have more than enough. (Phil. 4:12)

There is no doubt that the Word of God can create some confusing optics. For instance, when we see that God sees us holy and without fault, that is nice but hard to really see or understand! My thought after considering it from many angles was, “I want to be what He sees.” It is a sincere desire to move into what He knows. I think Paul’s statement about not being there yet fits that idea very well.

Today when I considered Paul’s statement about knowing what it is like to need things, I had to ask myself what do I need! The biggest adjustment we have to make to that is realizing that God cares about what we need! He even cares about what we think we need! He really does care.

The confusion concerning that comes when it does not appear that He cares that much because we are not seeing it. We read about Jesus healing everyone, and yet we are not seeing it. We read that He supplies all of our needs, and again we are not seeing it.

Sometimes people have more than enough and cannot see it. Other times, people have more than enough and feel guilty about having more than enough. Oh how we need the eyes of our heart opened to see what He sees.

We read about the destruction God has planned for the future and the destruction that took place long ago and we have another batch of confusing optics. This causes some people to wish it would happen sooner and others to reject God if that is the way He is going to be.

So what do we do? Look closely. We must raise our eyes to Him. He simply says to trust Him. This causes some to wonder how to trust Him. It can be simple or it can be complex. Usually when we choose the complex it is because we want an excuse not to simply trust God. He is the door and He invites to just enter in. That is when the devil comes and tells us that there must be a catch to it. It cannot be that simple. We have tried but it is not working. It is easier just to stand near the door and not get so caught up in God.

We think He has let us down. We think that He has forgotten. We think that He does not care, but the truth is, none of this is true. We just need clearer vision.

If we will just let our desire for God lead us we will see the peace that He brings. In the worst of circumstances and the best of circumstances we can be content knowing that He can and will complete His work in us. Holy and without fault, needs supplied and distributed, and peace that passes understanding. If we are going to have confusing optics, let’s make it a confusion as to how He can be so good and how He is always so faithful and how in the world He can see us holy and without fault. And let our response be, “that is just the way He is.” He is Lord!
