CONSISTENTLY CONSISTENT
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness"... (Matthew 6:33 NKJ)
As we observe the things that Jesus taught the disciples (for their benefit and ours) one thing is very obvious; Jesus was consistently consistent. He always pleased God because He always sought God first. This verse is the foundation of maintaining the Jesus kind of consistency. In everything, we must seek God first.
Failing to maintain consistency in our walk with God is the very thing that often blocks the “other things” Jesus spoke of. If we only seek God first when it is convenient, we will run into multiple problems. You see what matters most is that God is glorified. With that in mind, we need to be sure that our words, actions, and attitudes are consistent with Kingdom of God principles.
We need to be just as consistent in believing God’s promises as He is in keeping them. Of course if we see God as a sometimes promise keeper, then we may feel it is no big deal to be inconsistent. Jesus made it very clear that God is faithful at all the times. He is faithful even when we are not. He is always faithful and true to His word.
So it does not matter if things are going the way we want them too or not, we must seek God and His righteousness first. In other words, we must manifest His way of handling things. It is not okay for us to fudge a little. Not if we want all the other things added to us that is. It is not okay to hold a little grudge or be a little unforgiving. It is not okay to criticize and complain a little. It is okay to bless and curse not. It is okay to love. It is okay to give thanks to God in the middle of everything. It is okay to praise the Lord and let His light shine in all circumstances.
If we will make it our goal to bring God glory and then do whatever it takes to accomplish that goal, we will see and experience more than we could ever hope or imagine. I have some things that I know I need to fix in order to do this, and I am going to do it. There are places where I have been fighting a good fight and maintaining the edge, but I know it is time to deliver a fatal blow and be done with it.
I tell you that there is no place in the Kingdom of God for any attitude unless it is an attitude that will tolerate nothing short of God’s righteousness. If we have bitterness, grudges, resentment, or anything like it, we will always fall short of God’s best for us. Kill these things and get them out. Then get filled up and refreshed by the presence of God.
Take care of it right now while the Holy Spirit is prompting you to do it. Don’t wait till it wears off! Write yourself a note and put it where you will see it until you have taken care of it. God will gladly help. Whatever you do, don’t throw it away. Choose today to consistently seek first the Kingdom of God!
