CONSTANT CONFLICT

So I advise you to live according to your new life in the Holy Spirit. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves...these two forces are constantly fighting...(Gal. 5:16-17)

The best way to have victory is to recognize the battle. You can’t win a battle if you never fight it. Remember when David showed up at the front when Israel was facing Goliath. No one would fight. They saw the enemy but everyone wanted it to be someone else’s fight. Did you ever wonder why Israel was allowing the enemy to dictate the rules of the battle? Now there is a thought. Do we do that in our lives? Allow the enemy to dictate how things will go. Do we allow family heritage, health, or the way we have always done things to cause us to say that we guess this must be the way it was meant to be? Do we say it is just too big to fight so we better just get used to it. It did not take Israel long to route the enemy once David removed that thing that seemed too big.

Well, I have good news. Jesus removed everything that is too big for all of us! But, He did leave us with the warning that we find in Galatians 5. He said there is a constant conflict going on. We have the power in Christ by the Holy Spirit to be more that conquerors in every conflict, but the war is always present. God is bigger and He has set us free, but if we don’t act on that we will be like the army cowering every morning when Goliath came out.

The army thought David was a fool, but they would rather it was him who tried and failed. I doubt that there was even one person on David’s side who thought he had a chance. Have you ever found yourself spotting the battles that others need to fight? In other words, do you find yourself judging the lack in others rather than dealing with your own sins, and trusting God to help them with theirs?

Let’s face it; the Word of God is true! We all have this conflict going on. We all have enough logs in our own eyes. We need to pray for people. We need to be examples to people. We need to honest with people. If you see someone who you think needs something changed in their life. Ask them if they could help you with something that they seem to have under control that you don’t. Think about how you feel when someone comes to you and points out something they think you need to fix, and they obviously have more problems than you.

I can remember one time listening to an old drunk standing on the steps of bar and telling us that when He (God) pulls that chain you’ve got to. It was a true word, but how serious were any of us standing there going take it? Looking back, I realize that word from God could have saved me a lot of grief, but at the time it was a big joke.

Back in verse 13 of this same chapter, we are told that we have been called to live free for the purpose of serving one another in love. We serve one another when we give something to one another. When we give love the way that Jesus gave love. We have been called to live in victory and to help others to attain the victory that is in Christ Jesus.
