CRASHING
"So men, there is nothing to worry about. I trust God, and I am sure everything will happen just as His angel told me. But we will crash on an island." (Acts 27:25-26 ERV)
There is nothing to worry about! No matter what the news or anything or anyone else may try to tell us, God has assured us that everything will be ok. I love the way that Paul assured the folks on the ship. He did not deny the inevitable; He simply chose to believe God. Yes they would crash, but he did assure them it would be on an island.
As Christians, we can be sure that there is always an island. There is a place of safe haven. We do not need to know in advance what will happen we only need to trust that God will keep His promise.
Paul had already warned them about the dangers of this cruise all along the way, but even when it was obvious that what he warned of was becoming a reality, he did not quit trusting God. It was not like everyone else was going to crash and he was going to be taken by a better cruise ship; he was crashing too! Still he was confident. I recently listened to someone speaking of looking for the gold in people and situations. This is what Paul saw. God’s promise was his gold and it is ours as well. The more that we stand on the promises, the more we see just how much the Lord overwhelms what seems impossible. Even in the crashes, He carries us to the shore.
Just think of this situation that Paul and the other prisoners were in. Even after Paul assured them that all would be well, there came the urge by the guards to kill everyone before the wreck, but because the head guard wanted to keep Paul alive he did not allow it. So because of one man they all lived. Sounds familiar doesn’t it. Because of the one and only true son of God, Jesus Christ, we all too shall live.
After the ship broke up, they all made it safely to the island and by the grace of God they were well received. But then, the snake bit Paul. For a little bit it looked to everyone else like things were not so good for Paul, but Paul just shook it off and stood on the promise of God. This led to dinner with the chief, a miraculous healing, and extra special treatment and new ride when the weather was better.
In the last 32 years I have seen God heal some very impossible circumstances. I have also witnessed some real crashes, but even then, He is faithful to restore and if we will trust Him. No one likes crashes, but knowing that God can put pieces back together gives us hope in advance. I am very watchful when I drive, and especially when I am on the motor cycle. I do not go looking for crashes, but I have this confidence that God will make a way. In the beginning I believed it because God promised it. Now I have experienced His protection on several occasions which makes me more certain. I am not less cautious but I am even more confident. Yes crashes may come in life, but we are not as those who have not hope; we have the promise of God and therefore we can expect to land on an island.
