CROSSING LINES
I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. (Philippians 3:14 NLT)
Are there lines that we need to cross? Just as we considered what we may be missing, the answer to why we are missing it could be due to lines that we have refused to cross. In life, we often do things we said we would never do. We can often times hear people say that they do not understand how they got to this place. In fact, this is a question many ask about our nation now.
So the question when it comes to our faith and what we may be missing is, “Am I missing something because of a line I have drawn and need to cross?” The first line a Christian crosses is the line into the new birth. Sometimes people baulk at being born again. Sometimes people baulk at baptism. Sometimes people reject the Holy Spirit and power gifts. Maybe we have come to line of unforgiveness or place where we cannot love.
No matter what spot we have stopped, the answer is press on. Athletes often speak of hitting a wall. It is the place where there seems to be no way to go on, but something about getting beyond that points seems to raise their level of performance. I believe the same is true in our walk with God. When we trust God and move beyond that road block, we find greater things than we imagined.
I can remember when I was first saved and someone basically told me I was not saved if I did not speak in tongues. My first response was that I was a better Christian than them without that gift and I did not need to speak in tongues. God had a different idea however and soon I was seeking the gifts. I was saved, but the gifts strengthened me. I wanted everything God had to make me strong. So it was in crossing that line that I moved to a new place.
Since then, there have been many lines. Some I did not know were there, and some I had placed there. Before I became a Christian, there were many lines that I crossed that took me in a wrong direction. I have decided that if I was willing to cross lines like that before, I should never hesitate to cross lines that will take me deeper into the Kingdom of God.
So, do you have lines you need to cross. To be honest, sometimes the biggest line is being willing to check ourselves. A few months before I came to know Jesus I started reading a book that was given to me titled, “How to know you are born again” I remember saying to my bride after only a few pages that if it was true, we were in trouble. It was a line I had never considered before. I thank God I crossed that one. We do not need to feel badly when we discover a line that needs crossing; we simply need to cross it and rejoice. Keeping moving toward your high call. There is greater joy yet to come. Don’t just peek in; run.
