CUT THE ROPES

So the soldiers cut the ropes to the lifeboat and let it drift away. (Acts 27:32 NLT)

Trusting God often requires us to stop trusting something else. We cannot move ahead until we let go of what is behind. Often times what is behind is so heavy it is dragging us down to destruction, but we hold on anyway. Even though it may seem foolish in the natural, we need to be willing to cut the ropes.
Cutting the ropes was so against everything the sailors knew from their sailing experience, but there they were letting the life boat drift away. Paul’s warning included a ship wreck which made it even more foolish to let the life boat go, and still they did it. It seems to me that we have a lot of ropes that need to be cut. Our nation has storms going on and holding on to the natural is not helping anything. The truth is, there are many more storms that we ever hear about continually causing devastation. If we could see what God sees we would most certainly either give up or cut the ropes and run to Him. No matter how bad the storms may get, we can trust Him for rescue. If one ship breaks apart, He has plenty of other resources. All these things that trouble us and attempt to cause us to throw our hands up in despair, are really just one more opportunity to run to Him. He does not create the problem, but is prepared to solve it.
When we know God, we cannot be ones to throw in the towel and declare the world is going away and the sooner the better! We have the opportunity to declare the goodness of God in the land of the living. We can lift Him up as the strong tower that He is. We can and should declare that rescue is on the way. So cut the rope and shout out His victory.
We must be willing to let go of the things that get in the way of the Real Thing. It should be simple, but it is not. We must let go of casting blame. For some reason, we are in the midst of inflaming racism; anyone who will stop to think can see that racism itself is one of the greatest tools of the devil. Cut his rope of bondage if you see that you are guilty on either side.
God clearly states that we are to respect authority and yet authority seems to be what many people are against. I for one want there to be authority. Mostly I want God’s authority. Those who do not want anyone to have authority will never submit to God. It took me a long time to submit to God, but even at my worst, I respected other authority when it came around. Once we submit to God we really have no excuse for not following His guidance. Cut the rope of rebellion if you see that you are guilty.
It is safe to say that we all have entanglements. It is also safe to say that we do our best to ignore them and look at others instead. 2 Corinthians 5:16-17 tells us to stop evaluating others from a human point of view. In Christ we are new people. Cut the ropes on the old person. What we think is our safety net is probably what is destroying us. Cut the ropes and pray!
