DARK DIM DISTINCT

And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him so that so that he might receive his sight. (Acts 9:12 NKJ)

This scripture tells of the end of Saul the persecutor of Christians and the beginning of Paul the sold out servant of Jesus Christ. Saul went from being in the dark spiritually, to being in the dark physically in an instant. One moment he was riding down the road to put a stop to Christianity and the next he was blind and talking to Jesus. So in a sense, he just did a flip flop. When he could see physically he was blind spiritually and then he went blind physically, but his spiritual vision started to clear up.

Then for a few days he sat in physical darkness as spiritual spotlights came on all over the place. Finally the Lord gave him a vision of a man named Ananias coming and laying hands on him. Jesus told him that this was how he was going to receive his sight. No doubt he could only dimly comprehend this and yet he had no choice but to wait.

No doubt Saul was very familiar with all the stories of how Jesus did such things during his ministry, now the very thing he tried to so hard to stop became the source of his entire future. And so the man Saul came from two levels of darkness, to dimly understanding, to having a very distinct experience that made it very clear that Jesus Christ was Lord. Scripture speaks of those in darkness seeing a great light; in Saul’s case the great light blinded him, enlightened him, and gave him back revelation sight.

At one time or another, we have all been exposed to this light. Some respond to it quickly, others like myself, ignore it many times before responding to it, and still others never do. If you have for some reason never come to the light, please do it now. The rest of this devotion is for those who have seen the great light. For even after seeing the light, there are times when we find ourselves in the dark and welcome even a dim understanding of what is going on.

The good news is that Jesus never intended that we walk in darkness, or even be restricted to a dim view; He has come to open the eyes of our understanding so that we may have a clear and distinct revelation in every situation.

Saul could have stayed in spiritual and physical darkness. He could have refused the light that Jesus offered him as well the healing touch of Ananias. It was his choice, just as it is our choice to sit in our darkness or come to the light.

Our darkness could be bitterness, doubt, unbelief, fear, unforgiveness, selfishness, or any of a number of other things. No matter what it is, the Lord is here to restore our sight and open wide the doors of the kingdom of God. So where are you today? Have you been feeling like it is dark around you? Have you been feeling like the picture of things is just not as clear as it once was? I pray that you have been experiencing the Lord in distinctly wonderful ways. If not, will you allow the words of this devotion to restore your sight?
