DARKNESS

Day after day when I was with you in the temple, you did not lay hands on Me; but this hour and the power and authority of darkness are yours. (Luke 22:53 AMP)

It is difficult to understand just how everything works. I learned a long time ago that I did not have to understand everything; I just need to trust God.

I know, it seems a little simplistic to just say trust God; but that is what Jesus told us to do. Some things are just too complicated.

Why was darkness given the power at this time to take Jesus? Well God does everything at the right time. Remember, it is His timing.

I don’t think there has ever been a believer in Christ who has not wished that they could no longer choose darkness. If we could not sin because we could not sin that would make things so much easier. Still, if we are honest there are times when the power of darkness lures us in.

I think there are some basically good people right now who have been sucked in to some real darkness. They think it is because they are enlightened even though they know some things are very wrong. Herod gave up Jesus to darkness even when he did not want to do it. Funny, have you wondered why when a ruler could do anything he wanted whenever he wanted all of a sudden did what he did not want to do? Watch out for that power of darkness.

Jude tells us in verses 22-23 ways to apply mercy. He speaks of doubters and those who need to be snatched out of the fire. He also speaks of those that are so polluted that we loath even their clothing spotted and polluted by their shameless immoral freedom. So basically we can be merciful and loathing at the same time.

I will be honest with you; the loathing is pretty easy, but we have to work at the mercy. Yes, we love those that hate and pray for those who abuse and over all have mercy and pray. We just do not know how powerful our prayers are. Sometimes to be honest our flesh does not want to pray for some situations we would rather call down fire! Jesus said to pray so we will yield to Him.

Do you remember when you were in the clutches of darkness? We all have been there. The darkness may be just in thinking we have never been in darkness. Yes, we can be deceived. Some people have thought that since they grew up going to church that they are Christians by osmosis, but that is not what the Bible says. We are called to watch out for every kind of darkness. Dark is dark and there is no darkness at all in Christ.

Christians, we should protest and riot against darkness with the most powerful tool ever created. It is called prayer and it accomplishes much. Jesus is Lord. He is the Light of the world.
