DEAR CHILDREN

Therefore be imitators of God, as dear children. (Ephesians 5:1 NKJV)

Everyone loves dear children, but it takes a lot more effort to really enjoy rebellious and defiant children. Fortunately, it is yet another task that God is able to accomplish. He is patient and kind and works long and hard in His effort to bring us to the state of being dear children.

Dear children of God receive His word engrafted. They study to show themselves approved. Dear children desire to please their parents just as dear children of God desire to please God. In order to do that, we need to know what does please God. We need to spend time with God asking Him His desire for our lives. It is always good to consider what He wants of us individually as well as corporately.

As we look at Paul’s instructions in His letter to the Ephesians and to us, we see that He begins with clarification of the foundation of what God has done for us and provided us with in Christ. We are holy and without blame before Him. We are adopted. We are accepted! And with this, chapter 2 tells us that we are alive in Him and we are no longer dead in our sins. In other words, we are no longer obligated to walk the way we used to walk. It is amazing how some people think it is their calling in life to be obstinate and rebellious. The religious leaders in Jesus time were prime examples of children determined not to yield to the teachings of Jesus. They killed Him, hoping to keep His plan from spreading. Thankfully they failed. Everything that exalts itself against the knowledge and will of God ultimately fails. We would be foolish not to take advantage of the opportunity to walk in the freedom that the grace of God has provided. We have the privilege of being dwelling places of the Holy Spirit.

As dear children, we can rest assured that we are now partakers of His promises according to the effective working of His power. Isn’t it amazing that we regulate the effectiveness of the power of God in and over our lives. Before you balk at that, remember that salvation is a choice. The power to save is there, but we regulate whether or not it works in our life. The same power that raised Christ from the dead flows to us and through us and if we can believe it, all things are possible to them that believe. Oh how the enemy trembles at the thought of Christians walking in the truth and how he enjoys it when they refuse. God is raising up an army of dear children who will receive the truth and walk in it.

Heaven rejoices with each child who sees the truth and begins to walk like they understand. God has made us worthy to walk in the Light. We are not working our way into it, He paved the way. The requirement on us is to believe it as dear children. Read the book of Ephesians and see what the Lord reveals as you yield to Him as a dear child.
