DECEMBER HARVEST
But the good soil represents honest, good-hearted people who hear God's message, cling to it, and steadily produce a huge harvest. (Luke 8:15 NLT)
In our part of the country there usually is not much harvesting being done in December. This is the time for repairs and prayers for moisture for the next year. There are lots of seeds in the ground that are depending on that moisture and by faith the farmer believes for a harvest. Some farmers depend on God on purpose and others are depending on God whether they know it or not!
It occurred to me as I read of the seed and God’s message (vs. 11) that Christmas is a time for an annual glimpse of the prophecy of the harvesters overtaking the planters. Very often during this season there are people whose hearts are tender. There are many hurting and lonely and ready for something better in their lives.
These are like soil ready to gobble the seed. They are ready to be harvested before the seed hits and when it does they begin to produce instantaneously. They literally jump out of the world into the Lord’s bin. They are not even sure what it is that they have, they just know it something they have longed for. They did not know for sure how dead they were until they experienced life. This was my personal experience so I know it is true.
It is truly a time when those of us who know the Truth must remember to live the Truth. Every believer has had the opportunity to be discouraged when it comes to planting seeds. I am sure that we have all given up on more than one field. In some cases we have given up so completely that we do not even bother to check that field anymore. Fortunately, God never gives up!
Oh yes, there are those who are miserable and seem to want to stay that way. They may even try to make you feel bad about not being miserable, but in truth, they are only a moment away from grabbing the seed of God’s message and being transformed. We never know when it is going to happen, but we must continue to expect it to happen.
This is the time of year when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. His purpose for coming was to save sinners. We should rejoice that He came. We should enjoy all that He has done and continues to do for us. We should also remember that He sends us to the rest of the world with the same message He brought. Good News!
Let’s keep an eye on the harvest. God’s message is true and free and liberating. Is this the message that we are presenting to the world? I ask myself, “Does my life confirm God’s message? Do my words confirm His working in my life? Do I care more about hungry hearts, or my own desires?” Is there someone ready to snatch the seed right out of your hand? Be prepared to take good care of the harvest.
