DECLARE THE VICTORY
Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord. (Exodus 15:1 NLT)
The phrase that keeps going through my mind as I seek the Lord for a word that will help us all is, “Don’t forget to sing!” Since I do sing and love to lead in worship to the Lord, this really appeals to me. I realize that there may be some people who do not like to sing, or feel that they do not sing well, and therefore feel this does not hold any encouragement for them, but hang in there. It is not necessarily the sound that moves God as much as it is the heart behind the sound. If you long to worship God and your heart is reaching out to Him, you can be sure that you sound sweet to the Lord.
This however is not so much about the singing as it is about acknowledging what the Lord has done and declaring His victory with our mouths and with our lives. Israel stopped to declare that they would sing unto the Lord because He had triumphed gloriously. They recognized that it was God who destroyed the enemy. Of course in their case it was pretty obvious. None of them could open the sea or close it back up. None of them could make a cloud to hide them or a fire to light their way.
Have you ever considered how often the Lord has opened a way for you and you never even realized it? Or how many times has He put a shield of protection around you like a cloud so that the enemy could not destroy you? The truth is, none of us really know. Sometimes we see little bits of what the Lord has done and when we do I am certain that we all thank Him.
For instance, I am certain that God has angels who guard the road when I am driving. Their assignment is to keep the deer in the ditch or see to it that they cross the road before I get to them. Every time I see a deer when I am driving I thank God and declare that either that one was held in the ditch or was led across the road just for me. It may sound silly to some folks, but others are saying amen and praise the Lord as you read this.
The truth is that I have come to expect the Lord to take of care this whenever I drive. The challenge for me now, is to apply this sort of faith to other parts of my life by declaring if God will take care deer on the road, He can surely take care of other things that I am not trusting Him for.
Declaring His triumphs builds our faith. Having songs in our hearts and scripture on our mind helps us to say what the Lord says about things rather than what the world says. Keeping God’s promises first on our list, keeps us from speaking fear and defeat all the time.
The world is counting on us to show them a good and faithful God. There are so many people who do not know God in this way. They need to hear us sing and declare His greatness. Remember it is not the melody so much as it is the message.
