DECLARE THIS ABOUT THE LORD
This I declare about the Lord. He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him. (Psalm 91:2)
What a wonderful God. He is perfect in every way. His promises are true. His love is pure. Lord, I want to be like you. John reminds us in 1John 5:21 to keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your heart. What could possibly take God’s place in my heart? Sadly, just about anything and everything that crosses our minds!
The key is to recognize and move away from whatever it is. Don’t agree with the devil when He says you can’t possibly do that. Any distraction has the possibility of turning into an attraction. Fear can displace God for a moment; don’t let it turn into a monument!
We can experience displaced desires. There is no limit to the things that attempt to take God’s place in our heart. We can be discouraged by an unanswered prayer. We can become focused on an illness or pain. All these things are the enemies’ attempts to burst the dam and flood out lives with distress.
Stop all of this and declare, “the Lord alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him!” Say it repeatedly until the fear and distress are broken and His presence prevails.
He never leaves us. He never forsakes us. Psalm 90:17 tells us to pray that the Lord God will show us His approval and make our efforts successful. The effort to put God back on top is worth every moment that it takes. God is our refuge. Run to Him. I realize that this is something we all know. We have all heard before. I also realize that there are times it does not seem quite that simple.
Jesus showed us how to overcome. In the garden He prayed for another way, but in the end, He won with a simple submission to God’s will. Your will be done, God. You are my refuge. You will never let me down. Your peace is my pleasure. Your arms are my resting place. Hold me, Lord. Breathe on me Holy Spirit. I believe and I receive my victory.
This week is a week of prayer for the nations. Christians in every nation are praying for their nation and for all other nations. I heard a statement about prayer that was so refreshing. Prayer is an opportunity to talk to the creator of the universe. That is so simple and so true.
It is an opportunity to leave behind the cares that bind us and move into the place that God prepared for us. Come to the refuge. Come to the safe place. Wow, that is better!
Psalm 91:15 reminds us; “When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue them and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.” Nothing could be better.
