DEPEND ON THE TREASURE

We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God not from ourselves. (2 Corinthians 4:7)

How can we reveal God if we do not depend on God? How can we say we love God if we really do not need God? How can we expect Him to do anything for or through us if we really do not want Him being obvious in our lives?
I grew up thinking God probably existed, but I really had no need for Him. If someone would have asked if I loved God, I probably would not have had an answer. Now if they asked if I love ice cream I would have had a quick response! Other than the night time prayer and occasional meal prayer there was not much prayer except maybe if I was in dire circumstances. Even then I cannot think of many instances. I did however wonder why God let my grandma die.
So the truth is, I had no real understanding of God and certainly no relationship. Without relationship there can be no real need, love, or longing for God. God is not a once in a while God! He cannot be treated as a convenience for our whims. He is not our butler. We must believe and deeply desire Him in all things at all times. He must be our foundation!
It is quite possible that there is a light shining in your heart, but you keep it under cover and only let it out when it is safe. Why not let it break out. Why not declare from the morning when you wake up till you lay your head to rest; “I am blessed!”
If we say we believe and we are in Christ, we should walk giving glory to God. That is what He did. A well lived life is a life that is spent knowing and praising God. It is a life that is preparing to spend a great eternity with Him. So whatever we do we do for His glory.
I read Isaiah 32:2 yesterday and it was like a call. It says that we are to be like shelters from the wind and refuges from storms. We are like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of great rock in a parched land.
The world is full of many forms of storms right now. There is a desert of unrest that we contain refreshing water for all who will drink. We are a shade place for those who will seek refuge in this parched land.
We contain all that anyone could ever need. Yes, we are like fragile clay jars. We do not always feel up to the task or like we have what we need, but the truth is we have the treasure! The more we depend on it, the more freely it will flow. Settle it in your heart that need, love, and want God in all things at all times and you will find the river flowing naturally out of your fragile clay vessel. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!
