DESTINATION JESUS

Then they were eager to let Him into the boat, and immediately they arrived… (John 6:21)

When Jesus is present things are always better. That is why we want to remain in Him! Whenever I read this scripture, I wonder why in the world they took off without Jesus in the first place? But then, how often do we head out without Jesus? I am certainly thankful that He keeps us in mind even when we head out without Him.

I have always loved that once Jesus was in the boat things changed, and they were immediately at their destination. Jesus is our destination.

He is the fullness of the Godhead in one perfect package. In His presence there is fullness of joy. He is the peace that passes understanding. He calms storms with a word. He has not changed, and He never will.

If we find ourselves struggling in a storm of life, we need to eagerly welcome Jesus into our boats. By faith we know that He makes all the difference. We sing songs declaring that even when we cannot see it or feel it, we know He is working. Look for Him until you see Him.

The disciples saw Him walking on the water and they were afraid. But they kept looking and when they saw it was Him, they were eager to get Him in the boat. They had no idea what was going to happen, but they knew they needed Him.

The same is true for us. We just need Him. We don’t need to dictate the outcome of everything; we just need Him. The disciples probably remembered how He calmed the storm. This time He simply left the storm behind.

Are we willing to leave the storms behind? How often do we go back to the storm even after we have prayed and Jesus has brought us to a calm place? Do we fail to enjoy the destination that Jesus brings us to?

How often do we find ourselves in a mess and ask Jesus to help and then feel guilty or spend time blaming ourselves for the mess while Jesus is ready to get in the boat and leave all that behind? Why don’t we cast down those thoughts and enjoy His presence and the destination He has for us?

Do you like the way Jesus works? Do you like what Jesus says? Do you ever find yourself grumbling when Jesus is in the boat? Some things He says are difficult to swallow! My advice is to chew and not grumble. The next day when the crowds gathered, they wanted an explanation of how he got there. Then they wanted to know what they needed to do so they could perform God’s works. Jesus told them this is all God wants from you: believe in the one He has sent! That is what he wants from us as well.
