DID YOU NEED ANYTHING

Then Jesus asked them, "When I sent you out to preach the Good News and you did not have money, a traveler's bag, or an extra pair of sandals, did you need anything?" (Luke 22:35 NLT)

David boldly declared that the Lord was his shepherd, consequently he lacked nothing. Jesus reminded the disciples of how well everything went when they were sent. He reminds us that He is with us always and that He will take care of us. So why can’t we rest in Him and let Him do what He has promised? I think we all know that it is because our enemy, God’s enemy, the devil wants to keep us from resting in the Lord.
We need to settle the fact in our hearts that if we are willing, He is more than able to complete the good work that He has begun in us. He can finish what He started. We could not be saved by works. We could not measure up to the law in our strength. We were powerless, until He empowered us. The Holy Spirit leads us into all truth. If we need to be led into all truth; that would cause me to think we might just miss the truth on occasion. Are we willing to be redirected? Do we desire Him and His way, more that our own way? If we do, we will arrive where God is leading.
When Jesus said follow me and I will make you fishers of men; all they had to do was follow. Were they perfect fishers of men? Did they do everything just the way that we even think is right? Did Jesus do what He said He would do? Did Jesus fail at anything? When Jesus said, “Let’s go to the other side,” could a storm stop them? How do you answer these questions?
Have you noticed that Jesus never nurtured doubts or fears or anything that was not God? Jesus never magnified failure, so neither should we. Only the enemy would condemn and cause us to constantly feel inadequate. God, through Christ, has made us kings and priests and more than conquerors. He said we would be perfect even as our heavenly Father is perfect. Is He a liar? None of us can work our way to perfection. We must be led.
Do you love Him? If you do, be patient and you will see the glory of God. Why do I ask if you love Him? Well, that was the only question He asked Peter after Peter denied even knowing Him. Once Peter answered that question it changed everything. That is just how powerful love for God is. If you love Him, you will overcome all things.
The Gospel is good news. It was never intended to be used to defeat people or cause them to give up. It was never intended to tear us down. The Holy Spirit came to convict so that we can receive the good news. The good news is that Jesus died and rose again to redeem us. If we ask, He forgives us for all of our sins. Old things do pass away. All things do become new. We are continually being renewed. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so and keep saying so. Believe!
