DISTRACTIONS AND ATTRACTIONS

Do you need wisdom? Ask God for it. He is generous and enjoys giving to everyone. So He will give wisdom. (James 1:5 ERV)

There are many distractions in life that war against the truth that God has provided for us. There are also a multitude of interruptions that confront us on any given day. I was thinking about these things and I heard in my heart, “Don’t allow distractions to turn into attractions or interruptions to turn into eruptions.”

If we focus too much on the distractions, they can turn into attractions. Once again we go back to the beginning in the garden where the tree that they were not supposed to eat from was a distraction. Continually focusing on that distraction opened the door to it being an attraction. What could have been disposed of as a little interruption became an eruption that blew them out of the garden.

In the book of Galatians, we are told to live the way the Spirit leads us. We know that there is a war of distractions and interruptions going on. The Holy Spirit, in a sense, is also working to distract us from the wrong focus and interrupt or check us if we are attracted to what we should not follow.

So we need wisdom, and perfect wisdom comes from God who loves to give wisdom to everyone who will ask. We need to grow in this wisdom so that we recognize the fatal attractions for what they are.

We are living in a time when distractions are everywhere. Many years ago, the Lord gave me a song. One of the lines was, “The world grows colder and satan grows bolder. He knows his time is at hand. And even the righteous must pray constantly for the strength to resist him my friend.”

We are bombarded with temptations on the Television, magazines, roads signs, and just about everywhere you can look. A person can be distracted by the flash of a body, but if we are not careful, that distraction can begin to be an attraction and that minor interruption can erupt into a full blown desire for more. This scenario can be applied to any of a number of things that steal, kill, and destroy people every day.

In order to reverse this curse, a person must learn how to counter or stand against the wiles of the devil. There is more than enough ammunition in the Lords arsenal to overcome anything that the enemy throws at us.

There is an answer to every distraction. We could call it a counter distraction. When are attracted to the Word of God, we become the victors. When we are interrupted by temptations, we can erupt in powerful prayers. We can be quick to run to the wisdom of God. So we need to be wise. We need to recognize the distractions and prevent wrong attractions. We need to be sure our eruptions are rightly directed. Be wise!
