DO I LOVE
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud. (1 Corinthians 13:4 NLT)
Since we talked about enjoying God, there have been many things that point to ways to improve on that idea. I do enjoy God, but do I bring Him Joy? Then we come to love. I do love God and I and I run pretty consistent when it comes to that. I am always patient with God. I am always kind to God. I am not jealous of God and have no temptation to be proud or boastful to Him or to others for that matter. I do not demand God to do anything and I cannot remember ever being irritated with God. I do well with God. I have often said I could be perfect on a mountain with just God and me. Of course that is not true, I would still have much work to do!
So, do I love? Well, I surely try, but this scripture will never cease to be a challenge. I guess the challenge is good for us, but how long oh Lord before I have it down pat? We all know the answer to that.
Ephesians 5:8-9 points out that were once full of darkness but now we have light from the Lord and we should live as people of light. That is love. His light produces only what is good and right and true. So where does this other stuff come from? Seems like some darkness shows up from time to time and when it does, we have a remedy. We acknowledge it for what it is and repent. Then we go back to walking in light with a little more effort. What a joy it is when we choose light. Oh what joy divine when we are walking, talking, and living in the light; that is the miracle of the indwelling Holy Spirit. It is equally miraculous when we recognize and acknowledge the darkness when it appears in our lives.
Loving God is easy. Enjoying God is easy. Do we enjoy and love Him enough to present ourselves to Him desiring to be transformed by the renewing of our minds? Do we want to be changed from glory to glory? We love a little better with each step closer.
In Ephesians 4 Paul tells us to lead a live worthy of our calling. It is no small call. It is God’s call. He says to always be humble and gentle and patient with each other and allow for faults because of our love. He is not telling us to make allowance for our own faults, but for the faults of others. It is that love thing again. It is not natural to love that way. It is super natural and that is the love that the Holy Spirit imparts to us.
You know it is really obvious and seems like it should be so simple to just flip that switch and let the light shine. The truth is, sometimes it is. In fact it always is the moment we see it. But speaking for myself, just because I get it right once, does not mean I always get it right. That is what keeps us going and growing I desire to love and I have the resources available to do it right. So I say to myself; get it right! What do you say?
