DO NOT STRUGGLE

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7 NLT)

I think we have all declared in one way or another that we struggle with this or that. The truth is that the more we struggle with something the more it wears us out. In fact, more often than not we find that after long struggles people tend to give up. Have you ever said, “I give up?” If we are going to give up, we should give up struggling against the truth.

One thing that always amazes me is when someone declares that they are struggling with their faith. We are supposed to fight the good fight of faith not struggle with it. I know that if you have ever said that, you are already thinking, “that is not what I meant.” But it is what you said!

Recently as I have been considering the thought of Christ in me providing salvation, and being in Christ giving me life and always causing me to triumph, the thought “Be all in” came into my heart. As I considered that, I wondered to Lord why it was that we struggle at times with being all in when it comes to the Kingdom of God. We say we are in, but then we doubt and fear and etc.

The Lord simply said, “Don’t struggle.” Then the Holy Spirit brought to mind scriptures that point out that we are to resist the devil, and cast down the things that come against us to cause us to doubt. There is a difference in resisting and struggling. When we resist something, we simply walk away from it or walk through it. To cast something down or shake it off leaves it off. To struggle with something we have to hold on to it. The more we stay entangled the more it wears us down.

When people struggle with a thought or an idea for so long, the best thing they can do is step away from it for a while and get refreshed and come back for the finish. The Lord empowers us to simply resist. He gives us all the tools to overcome the enemy, but if we remain entangled we can never pick up what the Lord has for us.

If someone walks up to you and accuses you of something that is not true and you grab them, you are in a struggle that is going to lead to trouble. On the other hand if you resist them and cast that care on God you are free from them and their accusation. In the same way, we can either struggle with the false words, or trust “THE WORD.”

Recently someone shared about the idea of trying. When someone says they are trying, it usually is an acknowledgment that they are in a struggle and losing. They are losing because the struggle is wearing them out. They are struggling because they keep holding on to something that they should let go of.

We can struggle to trust God concerning some area of our lives, because as we see it, He did not take care of some other area of our lives. As long as we see it that way, we will struggle. However, when we submit ourselves to God and the truth, and resist the lie, the struggle is over. So don’t struggle. Submit to God and resist the devil. He will flee. He is running already!
