DO NOT...NEVER...BE!

And don't make the Holy Spirit sad. God gave you His Spirit as proof that you belong to Him and that He will keep you safe until the day He makes you free. (Ephesians 4:30 ERV)

A simple formula for a successful life would be, “Don’t do the don’ts; never do the nevers and you will be what God called you to be! The problem with that is it keeps us focused on avoiding the wrong rather than doing the right. Most certainly we need to know what not to do, but as we know, even Paul ran in the problem of doing what he did not want to do.

Jesus pointed out that He always did what was right and this gave Him assurance that His Father and our Father never did nor would he ever leave Him alone, so we can have that same assurance. Not because we are perfect, but because He is.

Verse 29 tells us that when we talk we should not say anything bad! That is a quite an assignment, and one that I am sure we can all improve on. The key to not saying anything bad is to try to say good things! How is that for profound? Thinking before we speak, considering our words, and considering the Holy Spirit and His feelings are all useful tools in accomplishing this.

We know that God’s word says that good and bad water cannot flow out of the same well so we should not say anything bad about ourselves or others. We should not give the devil anything to work with. You see if you say bad things about yourself you open the door for the enemy to accomplish the very things you really do not want to occur in your life. The same goes for releasing bad on others. It is not only good to say things that will help others, it is important to say things that will help us as well.

The things that seem impossible are the things that are easy for God, so what is it better to say; “This is impossible,” or, “This is easy for God?”

Yes, we must remember to avoid doing what is wrong, but remember that God told us to first say yes to the Lord who is always right. “Submit yourself totally to God.” Then resist or say no to what is wrong and it will flee from you. When we are safe in God’s grasp we have a lot more confidence in overcoming the enemy. If we are just standing out there always trying to fight off our own weakness and tendencies for what is wrong, we will be continually confessing that we cannot do it. That is why we are told to declare that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

The Lord is opening greater and greater doors into His fullness, and we must robe ourselves in His righteousness so that we can enter and overcome. Be His! Concentrate on who you are in Him and you will be the conqueror He made you to be.
