DO YOU BELIEVE

I promise you what I promised Moses. (Joshua 1:3a)

When Moses died, it was a big blow to the people of Israel, but it was not a problem for God. He informed Joshua that Moses was dead and now he was in charge. The mantle was passed to Joshua and everything that God had promised Moses was now promised to Joshua. God told Joshua that everywhere he went he would be on land that God had already given him. And guess what? Everything God said came true.

Now, do you believe God? I am not asking if you believe He exists or if you go to church or read your Bible. I am not asking if you pray, or give money, or time, or anything else. The question God asks us all is, “Do you believe?”

Do we believe that God has not changed? Do we believe it is the same today, or do we think it was easier for Joshua? How would you like to inform everyone man that they needed to have a little surgery to celebrate moving into the Promised Land? Fortunately now our surgery is of the heart and does not require a lot physical pain! Still, if we want to enter into all that God promises, it is necessary that we make a heart commitment that is even greater than that physical commitment.

Do you know that Jesus word to us is very much like God’s word to Joshua? Jesus said He would be with us always. He also said that He was sending us just as His Father had sent Him. That sounds very familiar doesn’t it? So, do we believe God or don’t we?

Is God still powerful? Is God still loving? Is God still Holy? Is God still worthy of praise, glory, and honor? Has God grown weak or weary? Does God suggest a time when He will cease to be God? Where is it written that He plans to fail or that He will begin to lie?

Such ideas originate with the devil and are passed on by foolish people, but wise people still seek God and those who seek Him are finding Him in greater and greater ways. Paul said that he believed God in the face of a shipwreck, and God proved Himself faithful. You may feel like things are a wreck at times, who do you believe then? People who put their trust in the Lord know what it is like to have mercy surround them. Those who do not trust the Lord sink or simply continue to flow down the river to the valley of destruction.

If we confess the Lord Jesus as our Lord, we have a responsibility to believe God. He has placed us along that river leading to destruction so that we can rescue those who are headed for disaster. This world needs people who believe every word that comes from the mouth of God. Lord help our unbelief!
