DO YOU BELIEVE IT

The Spirit is the first payment that guarantees we will get all that God has for us. Then we will enjoy complete freedom as people who belong to him. The goal for all of us is the praise of God in all His glory. (Ephesians 1:14 ERV)

“Dad, Dad; do you believe it?” These are words that my son Michael often greets me with. Michael is 27 and has been a treasure his whole life. Sometimes I admit that the treasure is buried and deep and he can try my patience, but then treasures can be that way. When Michael says this to us there is always something that he has discovered that we must need to hear. It may be real and it may not, but all the same we stop and listen. Again, I must admit that sometimes I do not give him my full attention, but that does not sway him; and in the end I am going to have to listen.

This thought came to me as I considered a recent conversation with God. I was riding the Gold Wing to jail and of course I was praising Him for anything that came to mind and one of those things was the Wing. My, it is such a gift from God. I was also praising God that I had recently heard a report from my spiritual son Roggers in Kenya. He reported that he had just returned from Nigeria where he had established new Hosanna churches. In the midst of this God reminded of the song he sang to me with the line stating that there is not one thing in the whole wide world I would not do for you. Then He asked me, “Do you believe it?” I told that I certainly did, and then He said, “Then why don’t you ask?

This is a continual subject with us. I do ask for lots of things for others; I just do not ask much for myself. Well at this point prayed for the nations as God tells us in His word to ask and He will give the nations. He said, I just gave you Nigeria! I laughed as I thought about the broadness of this. I spoke into the life of the one who went there and God tells me He gave it to me. I have to believe that. So many things come about in our lives and we miss them because we really do not see and believe them. We may accept them or at least not deny them, but do we believe them?

Well God was looking for something more from me and I knew it, but I did not know for sure where to go with it. Do I not pray as ask for myself because I do not believe He will do it? I think it is because I feel so blessed and because He seems to be doing well without my asking, but I have learned that if He keeps coming back with something it is something I need to take care of. This is what reminds me of Michael. Michael just keeps coming at you until you listen.

So, I asked God for something and I asked Him to do it in a way that it was obvious to all that He had done it. I want it done so that no one can give me any credit or part in it. I know that I can do nothing without Him, but people often want to give the glory to people so they do not have to deal with the greatness of God. So now I am waiting and believing and yes I am thinking of other things that I can ask so that He gets glory. You see, He receives glory when we ask, because it means we believe.
