DO YOU TRUST ME

This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him. (Psalm 91:2 NLT)

Do you trust me? Will you trust me? These were things God asked as we headed off to minister at the women’s prison. It seems we are on a roll of conversations that strike up a lot of thoughts on my part. Thoughts like, am I not trusting or what is coming that is going to require trusting. Much like it was what He said breakthrough is coming! There is no doubt that we never get beyond growing or having to think when it comes to the Lord.

My answer was of course; yes Lord, I trust you. Don’t I?  He simply said, “Why do you get agitated?” He went on to say that it was possible to get agitated without getting aggravated. This reminded me that He had recently pointed out that it was possible to have troubles without being troubled! Not only is it possible but it is what He wants and what He gives us.

Over the course of the next hour or so traveling we had lots of conversation. Most of it was really me thinking about what He said, with Him causing more thoughts with His wisdom. It does not take a lot of words from God to transform everything we might think, and if we will allow Him to have His way, we will find it is not only the only way, but the best way!

So, here is thought; It is one thing to say I trust the Lord and quite another thing to do it! I can say, “Yes I trust you, Lord.” I can tell myself to trust the Lord. I can encourage others to trust the Lord. I can tell people that I trust the Lord. Yes, I trust the Lord! Then something comes up and the trust goes out the window. Well, not all the way out the window. It may only get halfway out before it starts to recover, or it may just plain run away and get lost for a bit! We may not even notice that trust has left the building. We may think we have it all handled just fine. The problem is trust handles things in a totally different way than just getting things to work out our way.

I just read this morning about the time that a man offended David and his men and he was headed to kill the man, and everyone associated with him. Then the man’s wife came and pointed out that this might not be the best way to handle it. She pointed out that he may end up feeling a lot of guilt and shame as a result of going off to take revenge. David agreed and thanked her for saving him from bloody revenge.

You see, when we trust the Lord, He is the one we turn to in all things. Agitation, aggravation, aggression, or any other emotion, can be brought to the Lord. He cares about every little thing. We know when something is building that is not necessarily what God prefers. We know when we are heading in a wrong direction. If we will just stop and get directions the end results will be a better reflection of our faith.

Do you do anything and while you are doing it you are less than happy and maybe even grumbling. God told me I could do everything as unto the Lord and it would be joyful. I know He is right. Will I trust Him, and do it? Well, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! Help Lord!
