DO YOUR PART

Those who look to Him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. (Psalm 34:5 NLT)

Jesus told His followers that they were blessed because they had the opportunity to understand. It struck me in a different way recently that yes, we have the opportunity to understand, but we are responsible to seek the Lord while He may be found and call upon Him while He is near.
This is of course obvious and yet, so many think that everything is up to God to take care of. Remember, He is of course in charge, but He is not in control of everything. We know He can take control, but if He was in control of everything like He will be one day we would not have so many messes to contend with.
Our part is to seek and look for Him and call upon Him. He is near. He can be found. We must be confident in His promises to us.
We are responsible for growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord. We cannot just sit in church once in a while or watch a teaching once in a while and think that we have done our part. God says we will find Him when we seek Him with our whole heart.
He desires to be important to us like we are to Him. This is for our sake! Those who trust in the Lord will have mercy surround them. Much the world has little concern for mercy. When we think we have it handled, we are determined to make things go our way; Mercy does not even enter our minds. When I was young, we would lock hands in a test of strength and make the weaker person say mercy. It had nothing to do with God.
Once when I was very lost, I believe a young man was out on a witnessing mission and must have mentioned my need for the mercy of God. To be honest I do not remember much except that I think I told him he better ask me for mercy. I am so glad God has forgiven me for that.
I believe that young man contributed to my salvation. There are many things in our lives that have contributed to our salvation. Our part is also to contribute to the salvation of others. What words do we share and actions do we take that can contribute to the salvation of others?
If we do not seek or call or grow in the Lord, we will have no desire to contribute to the salvation of others. If we do not desire the salvation of others, it is questionable whether or not we really have a relationship with the Lord. It has been given to us to understand; doesn’t it make sense that we should desire that others understand? And what is it that they need to understand? They need to understand that God is good and that if they seek Him they will find Him. They do not need to be like us, they need to be like Jesus! Seek and share. Do your part.
