DOING HIS WILL

And now, may the God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, all that is pleasing to Him. (Hebrews 13:20-21a NLT)

As we grow in our relationship with God and in understanding of His word, His love, and His promises, it is important that we do not lose sight of why we are in the family.

Everything that God promises us and does for us, is so that we can do what He has planned for us. He is equipping us to do His will. In order for all things to work the way that God wants, it is necessary that we want His will.

He wants us to be set apart for Him. He said that He is holy and that we should be too. Holiness is not some holier than though state, it is a state of being set apart for the purposes of God. It is a heart that chooses to do the will of the one who called us.

God assures us in His word that He is working with us as He commands us to perfect holiness in the fear of God. In other words, He tells us to work at it. We are to work at doing the right things and avoiding the wrong things. Jesus is described as loving righteousness and hating unrighteousness. To be honest, I need to develop a deeper hatred of sins I commit. I do not always have the best attitude. I do not always say the right things or think the right thoughts.

It should be every Christian’s goal to please God. When do you think God is most pleased? Is it when you’re obedient or disobedient? When are you most pleased with others? Whether it is our children, our spouse, a friend, or a total stranger, we are most pleased with them when they are doing what we like. Remember, we are not talking about how God loves us; we are talking about pleasing Him. He always loves us, but we may not always please Him with what we do or say.

Needless to say, how we please God has a definite affect on the results of our prayers. While we do not earn our salvation, there are certain things required for the fulfillment of promises. We cannot live in sin and expect a righteous persons reward.

So lets remember that the great promises and plans that God has for us are so that we can be brightly shining representatives of His glory on the earth. Let’s allow the power of Jesus to work in us and mold us into people who are always pleasing Him. He will do His part. Our part is to say yes and then do His will.
