DON'T BE DECEIVED
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons. (1 Timothy 4:1 NKJ)
Are we in the last times? Well we are surely in the last times for some of us! We know that the Bible often refers to the end times and every generation of Christians has thought that we must be in those last times. Thankfully, God has been patient as He waits for more to come into His kingdom.
There is also scripture that speaks of people’s faith getting cold and lazy. That I believe, is why the Holy Spirit prods us telling us to keep running the race. If we sit back and are lethargic in our faith, we are prime targets for the deceiver. I think we can all agree that there are lots things out there attempting to deceive us in our day. The same has been true in every other age.
There are a lot of issues that we must stand strong on. We cannot be deceived when it comes to things like abortion or immoral life styles. We cannot think that we can overlook such things and that God will overlook our overlooking. When it comes to our voting, we have a choice of people, but we do not have a choice of standards that we go by if we want to honor God. We are warned in scripture not to condemn ourselves by the things we approve. Our final standard must be His word if we want to dwell in His blessing.
Don’t be deceived; God is not going stand idly by as live our lives in compromise. I am not speaking of legalism, but God said, “I am God and I change not.” Just because styles change does not mean God changes. Here, I am speaking of things like appropriate dress, language, and actions. Some Christians have become comfortable swearing as long as they are not really bad words. How long will that last. And I really don’t want to try and dictate what is appropriate dress, but it is something to think about.
The main thing is that we keep ourselves in the love of God. We really must strive to stay close so that we will not be deceived. We need to be careful that we are not wandering out near the forbidden fruit so to speak, where the devil can tie us in knots and leave us in a pile. It is a reminder to me and I hope to you too. I have always prayed, “Lord don’t ever let be go back toward where I was.” He has promised that would not happen as long as I keep pressing. I need the reminders to keep me doing just that. I am sure that you feel the same way. He will keep us if we will seek Him.
