DON'T SETTLE FOR LESS
No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. (Romans 8:37 NLT)
There is a popular game show now called “Deal or No Deal.” In the game, there is a banker who tries to make contestants settle for less and make the best deal for the show. Each contestant gets to choose one case containing an unknown amount of money from 26 cases all containing amounts of money ranging from one penny to one million dollars. As the contestant chooses cases, depending on the amounts in the cases, the banker makes offers to the contestant for their case. Often times you see contestants end up with very bad deals and sometimes very good deals. There is of course an audience cheering the contestant on.
This all came to my mind as I was praying and the Lord said, “Don’t settle for less!” At first I thought it was ridiculous that I would think of some television game show when I am praying but then as I thought about it, it made perfect sense.
The enemy of our souls is trying to deal with us all the time. He is always trying to get us to settle for less. God has already given us the winning prize. All we need to do is stick with Him. However, in the world around us there are lots things set to distract us. I failed to mention that an attractive female model carries each case in the game. In the same way, the distractions and temptations that surround us are often very appealing. This is why it is important that we are confident that we have the best prize and that we refuse to settle for less.
Often times, the contestants start out saying they are sure they have the million dollars in their case. Of course as time goes on and the offers go up, the temptation is to settle for less. On a few occasions I have seen the person sell out for less when they did in fact have the largest amount. On other occasions, they have ended up getting more than they actually had in their case, but still less that the largest amount.
As a child of God, I am certain that there is no greater prize than the one God has promised and I am sure you are too. With that confidence, we can and must continue to stand against all doubts, fears, and temptations. We also need to ignore the crowd that is urging us to make any deal that is not the Lord’s best!
God has promised us overwhelming victory through Christ. If we will refuse to be distracted no matter how good or bad things appear. If we will remain confident in the promises of God and expect Him to answer our every prayer, then no matter what comes at us, we will hold on to the prize and we will not be disappointed because God is the greatest and He never fails!
