DON'T STOP TRUSTING

But if you stop trusting, you also will be cut off. (Romans 11:22 c NLT)

If there is one thing that we must always remember and never forget it is always keep trusting God. I know that I am pulling this bit of scripture out of the middle of a teaching on how the branches are cut out and replaced, but if you will bear with me, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit it will make sense.

You see there is nothing that throws things out of balance like losing sight of how we can trust God. It is when we stop trusting that the harmony that God wants us to walk in begins to slide out of tune. In music, there are some things that the composer may put in that to the listening ear may seem not to fit, but the composer had a reason and it makes the song work. At times even the ones performing the music for the first time may have a hard time accepting the way it is written, but if they keep trusting and just doing their part, it all comes together.

Can you see how this applies to our spiritual life? I cannot tell you how many times I have heard people say that they know they should trust God, but it is so hard sometimes. Then I in my infinite wisdom respond by saying, “I know it is hard, but we just have to trust Him.” Think about that statement. How can we say it is hard to trust God? It is not hard to trust God. It is difficult to resist the devil, because our flesh wants to agree with him all the time.

So what does trusting God have to do with harmony? Just think about it. The minute we lose sight of the fact that God is able, we begin to rely on our flesh. We begin to think of ways to control or manipulate a situation. If we don’t check with God on our plan, the next thing that can happen is that we begin to plan other people into our plan. If they do not happen to catch the vision, we see them as failing to do their part. By this time, we are beginning to be convinced that our plan really came from God in first place and now they are not obedient to God. Are you beginning to see the picture?

What started the mess was a failure to just trust God. The good news is that we can always start to trust again. Just like a musician who decides they want to change the notes, if they take a look at the director they will know they might want to reconsider and play what is written. If they ignore the director, they just keep messing it up worse and worse and if they will not conform, they may end up out of the musical family.

Finally what often delays the restoration of harmony, is when we are out of harmony we tend to not want to seek God. The enemy convinces us that we don’t need to seek God because we are right and others are wrong and that is all there is too it. So we just keep playing the wrong notes. Hopefully we come to the place that we can’t even stand it and we humble ourselves before the Lord and harmony is restored. Of course the longer we play the wrong notes, the more our folly is exposed and that is never comfortable either. The best thing to do is keep-trusting God. His songs are always perfect.
