DOUBT AND BLAME

Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” (Matthew 14:31 NLT)

Two words have been rolling around inside of me for most of this week. The words are doubt and blame. It occurs to me that if we doubt God, we are also susceptible to blaming God. If we refuse to doubt Him, we are more inclined to simply trust and praise and keep from blaming Him.

Peter did so well even getting out of the boat and starting to walk, but he was not able to finish what He started. Jesus was not unreasonable when He spoke to Peter. He was giving him the key to finishing. Keep trusting. Refuse to doubt. We will do well to settle in our hearts and minds that we will refuse to doubt.

Later we find Peter in a terrible situation when He denies even knowing Jesus! The only way such a thing could happen was if he doubted that Jesus could finish what He started. Blame follows doubt. We have to blame something or someone. In this case, Peter blamed himself and as a result suffered a tremendous amount of guilt and shame.

Here we see that doubt attracts nothing but trouble. If we blame God, it opens a flood gate that causes all kinds of trouble. The same is true if we doubt a spouse or a friend or ourselves, we end up casting blame somewhere and the results are not good.

The nonsense that is going on in our world right now gives us an opportunity to trust God; to refuse to doubt His ability to handle the storms. We do what He says we can do. If we trust Him, we will see that people have been taken captive by the devil. We properly accuse the one who is the source of all evil.

How else could people be so determined to continue to murder babies. How else could they be convinced to mutilate themselves in order to change what God made in the first place. How else could people go along with the idea that lawlessness is good, and faith is destructive. God spoke of a time when people would call good evil and evil good.

First and foremost, we must trust and not doubt. Second, we must stand for what is right. We must not be ashamed of the gospel. Speak to the storms. Speak up in the storms. When the opportunity arises to speak the truth, do it.

All of this craziness is not alright! God makes that clear. There are multitudes who are waiting to hear someone say that and encourage them to take a stand. As Christians we need to pray. Oh yes, we need to pray! We also need to act. Jesus prayed all the time. He also cleared the temple and healed and delivered people. You can change someone’s life by simply pointing them to the truth.

I know there are people who know better but are afraid to take a stand. I encourage you to trust God and go ahead and do what is right. Declare what is right. Magnify the Lord. He is worthy to be praised! That is how we defeat the enemy. Don’t let doubt rule. Put the blame on the devil and expose him. Call evil, evil and good, good.
