DOUBT OUT TRUST IN

The Lord your God is with you. He is strong. He will save you. He will be very happy about you! He will quietly love you. He will sing because He is so happy about you! (Zephaniah 3:17)

Have you ever wondered why we seem to put more effort in doubting than we do in trusting? Think about it. Doubt just gets a free pass to work in our thoughts and trust gets quick prayer. Once we have prayed we can get back to our doubting! This needs to stop!

We pray and then we have done what we need to do. In a couple of seconds if nothing has changed we head right back in to all the doubts instead of standing on the promises.

God cannot and will not lie, so what He says He will do, He will do. When I was little we sang a song in church about standing on the promises of God; it had a jumpy tune and I liked to sing it. I had no idea what it was talking about but I liked it.

It seems to me that we often like the idea of God, but we fail to trust what He says. Our doubt wears us out and as a result we falsely accuse God of not doing what He has promised. We end up speaking our doubts rather than His promises!

There is a lot that we do not know. There is a lot that we will not understand until we are finally with Him. Still, we can trust what He has told us. His promises are true. Focus on trusting in Him and in what He says.

Yes we have all prayed and not received the exact result we were looking for, but that does not change God. Why do we dwell on what we do not understand? Think about it; we have all been blessed when we did not even ask! Why don’t we dwell on that? He loved me before I knew Him and now all my love is due Him. The song says He plunged us into victory. If that is true, and it is, then we can trust in our victory.

So how do we get the doubt out? Don’t do it! Answer your doubts quickly with His promises. Speak His promises to yourself. The Lord is with me and He is strong. He will save, protect, and provide for me. What if nothing changes? Keep at it. Don’t rush back into doubting. Convince yourself of the truth.

It is better to build yourself up than to dig a hole and fall into it! Face it, doubt just wears us out. We want to believe God but we do not do well when we cannot see the evidence. Can you imagine being Elijah when God told him to camp by the brook and the ravens would feed him? Seriously, the ravens Lord! It happened just as God said it would.

Trust will build you up. Doubt will wear you out and steal your faith. You can get the doubt out. Just do it!
