DRAW NEAR

And He said, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."(Exodus 33:14 NKJ)

As we begin this, let’s consider just a few things that God’s Word has to say about His presence. We are told His presence provides, fullness of joy, pleasure for ever more, and this scripture promises rest. Also, no evil can stand in His presence. We know that God has said we should draw near to Him and He will draw near to us. He tells us that where two or more are gathered in His name, that He is their among us. Scripture also tells us simply that God is present. And a favorite of many is that He stands at the door and knocks. He is always near waiting for us.

With this in mind, let’s consider what we can do to enjoy His presence and benefit from it. Since God is always near, and His presence is obviously with Him, it follows that rest, joy, pleasure, peace, healing, provision, protection, direction, deliverance, and all that God has, are near as well. Drawing from this well of God’s love, is a gift God has given to us. There is nothing we can do to earn it. It becomes our privilege when we, by faith, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The basis of this devotion came this morning when I was telling the Lord how I loved His presence. His response was, “draw on it.” Then scriptures such as the ones I mentioned above began to roll through my mind. So many in fact that there is not near enough time or paper to mention them all right now, but if you will meditate on this, you too, will have a flood I am sure.

Of course, God is everywhere. We all know that, right? We need only to draw near to Him! We should know that, but the fact is, we are all guilty of acting like, God can’t see, or hear, and that He could care less about what happens to us! But of course the opposite is true. We are the object of His love, and all that He has and does, He does for us, and for those who will believe because of what He does for us.

The picture I saw when I was reminded of Jesus standing at the door knocking, was one of Him being so desperate for us to realize that He is right there for us, that He actually comes and knocks. I thought, what in the world am I doing leaving Him on the outside where He would have to knock.

How could I possibly be so foolish as leave the source of everything in life out of anything that I am doing. Why would I sit inside worrying about something when I can have Him right there taking care of it. Why would I lock myself in a room with sickness, and leave healing standing outside knocking. Why, why, why!

People are always asking why God did this or did not do that. God is wondering why we do not just draw on His presence and His promises.
