EAT AND DRINK
I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me, shall never thirst.(John 6:35 NKJ)
As I read this scripture it caused me to think about how often I say to God, I am so hungry for more of you. I thought of the choruses we sing saying how thirsty we are, and asking God to let the river the flow. And I thought, this all sounds nicely religious, but maybe not totally scriptural. But then there is the scripture telling us to hunger and thirst after righteousness. I also have to consider that He does prepare a table before me, and that my cup is overflowing. So what am I saying? Well, maybe we should be eating and drinking!!
If the Lord says that when I come to Him I will never be hungry, and if I believe in Him that I will never thirst, then I should do what He says. Perhaps when we are crying out and saying, “Oh God I am so hungry,” if we would listen we would hear God saying, “then why don’t you eat.” We seem to want to make Him responsible for everything. Certainly, He has already done His part. He initiated this whole thing. Remember, In the beginning God!!
Throughout history, He has at different times attempted to get things really rolling, and the people love it, but it just sort of fizzles out. Why, I wonder? Could it be because every time God moves in a special way, the people expect Him to keep it going. Each generation waits for the Lord to stir the waters again. When the Lord is gracious enough to come into our midst and fill our cup till it overflows, is it too much for Him to expect us to drink If we truly are hungry for His presence, then maybe we should eat!
How would we respond to our children if they did not show up for dinner and then walked in and proceeded to tell us how hungry they are. Or worse yet, if they sat at the table with us, complaining about the food, and then declared how hungry they were. If we were wise we would tell them to show up for dinner, and we would tell them that if they truly were hungry they would be eating.
Jesus does not lie. So if He said all we had to do was come to Him to be filled and believe in Him to have our thirst quenched, then we should do what He says. We should come and partake of all He is and has, constantly. We should drink the living water, and respond to His presence. He said let everyone who thirsts come and drink. It is time we quit expecting God to spoon and bottle feed us and started taking Him at His Word. He puts no limit on how much of Him we can enjoy, and we are going to need to keep ourselves full and refreshed as the Lord makes preparations for His return.
We not only need to be sure and show up for dinner, but we better carry a lunch with us at all times. Oh taste and see that the Lord is good!!
