EMBRACE THE WORD

Then He added, "Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given--"and you will receive even more. (Mark 4:24 NLT)

I wrote a note to myself; don’t just read or hear the word. Embrace it. Love it. Treat it like it is the air you breathe and the bread you eat. I do love to breathe, and I do love bread! I do read the word daily, and I do talk often with the Lord, but I must embrace Him. I want to guard against simply doing what I do because I do it. I need to take Paul’s advice to Timothy and make sure I stay stirred up.
It is also my privilege to offer things to others to help them get stirred up and in so doing, receive even more of the goodness of God. It really does not take a lot to please God as long and we desire to find a way to please God. It is the fact that we set our hearts upon seeking Him that He looking for.
May I suggest that we all give up on deciding whether we have perfected our approach or not and simply approach Him! I believe that God loves enthusiasm. He tells us to have the heart of a child. If we do, we will trust Him and appreciate every little thing He does, and have more patience for things we really don’t understand. I don’t know about you, but often times the things that I can do nothing about are the things that turn me about. When a child asks when they will get wherever the family is going, the answer is often soon, not for a while, or it will be a long time yet. None of these are real clear answers, but that was all the child required. We would do well to be satisfied that the Lord knows what He is doing.
Our peace, comfort, and assurance are ours to possess by simply embracing His word. We live one breath at a time. Sometimes when we are stressed or exhausted our breaths are closer together, but still it is one breath at a time. No matter how many bites we take, we swallow just once. Then we take another bite. On occasion we take a bite on the run to sustain us, but still it is one bite.
So, are we breathing enough of God’s word to keep us alive? Are we eating enough of the bread of life to live? Are we trying to get by on quick bites?” The world around us is full of walking dead people. It is full of people gasping and starving and they have no idea why. On the other hand, there are also people starving physically who are very much alive. They may not have clean water but they do have living water and they are embracing what they have.
Sometimes we have so much that we forget how much we need God. It is good for us to check our course. A pilot sets his course for a flight, but he also must be prepared to adjust that course if the control tower tells him to. He is required to keep his radio on and pay attention for instructions. He wants to hear. Stay tuned in to God and embrace what He has to say to you.
