ENJOY THE LORD ALWAYS
Giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. (Psalm 50:22)
Enjoy the Lord! David spoke of the one thing he desired. He just wanted to hang out and enjoy the beauty of God’s presence. He had lots of needs, and he needed lots of fixes, but the one thing he desired was the presence of the Lord.
Psalm 37 tells us to commit everything to the Lord and trust Him. This reminds me of putting things in my calendar. Once they are there, I don’t need to check them every day. I don’t even have to look at them. I may glance at them occasionally to remind myself, but mostly, I can just forget them until they pop up.
Sometimes, things get changed, and sometimes things get removed. And yes, there are some things that just get forgotten. Sometimes, things that we commit to the Lord are things that are best simply forgotten. Things like anger, worry, vengeance, fear etc. He can handle those without us!
Of all things, the best thing we can do is enjoy the Lord. Recently as I read the account of Jesus and the devil in the wilderness. The devil waited for Jesus to be weak and hungry and then he pounced, only to be bounced by what God said. The word of the Lord tasted better to Jesus. Then the devil tried to offer Jesus the glory of the world. How crazy was that? Jesus’ response was the command to worship the Lord alone. Oh, how the devil hates it when we worship and enjoy the Lord. In all of the devils’ offers, he was trying to cause Jesus to doubt who He was, implying that if Jesus did not do or could not do those things, then maybe He was not so wonderful. We know Jesus is!
The devils’ tactics have not changed, he is always working to try and make us doubt God. We do not have to prove anything. If we simply enjoy God, we will find a simple escape. The more we enter His presence, the more we experience the confidence that overcomes the schemes of the devil.
In our weakest state, the enemy is no match for the presence of God. Jesus came out of the wilderness ready to speak and live the truth that He was and always will be the anointed one of God. Jesus told us and God assures us that we also have an anointing from the Holy One.
We have the privilege of walking through this world as ambassadors of God’s kingdom. Just as Jesus went about doing good, producing joy, and bringing life everywhere He went; so, can we.
We can assure people of what God has said. We can be a light of hope and joy and confidence. We can encourage others to enjoy the Lord. The more we know Him, the more we enjoy Him. We know that we can know the Lord and that we can trust the Lord. That is good news. Enjoy!
