ENLIGHTEN MY EYES

Consider and hear me, O Lord my God; enlighten my eyes. (Psalm 13:3 NKJ)

Have you ever given thought to what really occupies your mind the most? Do you dwell on the blessings that you have or do you tend to focus on what you do not have? No doubt we all do both at times, but which one occupies the biggest place in our lives.

God’s Word tells us that darkness cannot stand up to the Light, and yet it seems at times that we are more attracted to it or distracted by it. We are like people who have well lighted streets to walk on and yet we often duck into dark alleys! Scripture also speaks of those whose light is darkness, but even that darkness is not beyond God’s ability to overcome it. The key remains to just keep walking in the light.

We want to be careful that we do not get caught up in manufacturing darkness! By that, I mean that we can spend all of our time looking to see where we are in darkness, or even worse, where others are in darkness and miss the light the Lord has all together. If we will just concentrate on exposing ourselves to the light, the Lord will enlighten us. His goal is to bring us all to the place where there is no darkness in us.

I think one dark idea that we need to expose to the light of truth is the idea that God likes to see us suffer and that He spends His time making sure we learn the hard way! Just because something is hard, does not mean God put it on us! Think about it. If God really wanted to see us suffer, Jesus never would have come into the world to save us. They could have just stood back and enjoyed themselves watching us flounder around on the earth and then the real entertainment would start when we stepped into hell. Now that sounds crazy doesn’t it? Remember. Jesus came so that we could have a more abundant life.

So, how thankful are you? Thanking God for what we do have opens the door to the things that we do not yet have. God really loves grateful hearts. Giving thanks can take us to a place where we do not see darkness. It takes us to the place where all there is, is light. We wonder, “How can I be thankful when things are so bad?” We can be thankful because those who trust in the Lord have mercy surround them! We can rejoice in the salvation of the Lord. We know the Calvary is on the way! We know the angels are camped around us! We know the truth and the truth has set us free.

If we will allow the Lord to enlighten our eyes, we will no longer be drug down with wondering how long. We will know even before we complete such a thought that the Lord has not forgotten us at all, let alone for forever! We will also be quick to take our counsel from Him rather than from our own thinking. We will wait confidently knowing that God has not only dealt with the darkness, but that He also has dealt bountifully with us! Walk in the Light as He is in the Light.
