ENTER AND FINISH

Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out , saying: "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!"(Matthew 21:9NKJ)

We are in the season of the resurrection celebration. Today is the day we celebrate the triumphal entrance of Christ into the city where He would give His life so that all mankind could be restored to fellowship with God. What an emotional day it must have been for our Lord. Here it was the final week of this stage of His ministry, which would end with His death and resurrection from the dead. Between this march and the resurrection there was much that would transpire. Many of those who were cheering now, would be chanting, “crucify Him” before the week was over. But Jesus could not let that keep Him from what He came to do. He had to finish what He had begun.

Yes, if Jesus had only shown up for the celebration and not finished what He was called to do, we would have no celebration now. We could not have life, if He did not suffer death.

The same is true in our own lives. Every victory that we experience in our life with Christ requires some dying to self on our part. The Apostle Paul declared that he died daily so that Christ could live in Him. So many people today are frustrated because they are not experiencing victory in their lives. Part of the reason is because they want the celebration, but they don’t want to finish the course.

Church attendance goes up all around the country during this season. Some give up things for a number of days, others just show up for a change, but for what. What good does it really do if we just do things different for a few days a year, but never finish it with a total surrender to the Lordship of Christ.

Jesus arrived in the city with a purpose in mind, and no one was going to keep Him from finishing His course. What people said or did had no effect upon Him. He had His eyes on the Father, and on us. His life had to be sown into this world, so that He could then bring many sons and daughters to glory. His life had to be sown, so that we could have life, and so that we could have power over the enemy of our souls.

It is the enemy that keeps people from finishing. He will allow people to show up for the celebration, but he does not want anyone to surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. He loves it when people stop in for church, and then run out to do their own things without any change taking place in their lives.

We all need to be sure that we enter in with a purpose. And that purpose should be that we become a little more like our Lord each day. A little celebration one or two times a week with no changes in our lives, will give us no victory. The thing that made the entrance of Jesus a triumph was that He was going to finish what He started. Will we?
