ESTABLISH YOURSELF

I will go home to my father and say, "Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, I am not longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me on as a hired servant." (Luke 15:18-19 NLT)

As we have considered God’s wonderful love, I have been stirred by the Holy Spirit to go deeper and deeper into this wonderful place that is so great we will never know it all until we see Him face to face. I am convinced that we most certainly experience the fullness of His love from time to time and it is so wonderful but we really do not comprehend it.
His love involves choices. He has already made His choice. He loves you and me and everyone everywhere with His great love. Our choice is to establish ourselves in that love. Even though it is all around us and it is being lavished on us continually, it is our choice to walk into it and walk and live in it or to just continue to take the occasional splash that comes out of the pool.
No doubt we have all been guilty of sitting at the edge of the pool watching others enjoy themselves wishing we could have all that fun. Once in a while a drop of refreshing water hits us and we almost jump in or perhaps we do jump in only to get out and back on the side of the pool again.
It is true, that there is discomfort in the pool at times. There are things in the water that scare us and cause us to question, but establishing ourselves in His love gives us staying power. We must stay. We must stand and keep standing.
In the story of the prodigal, we see the long route to being established in love. I don’t think the prodigal son considered his father’s love to begin with. He did not even realize it was love that prompted his father to go ahead and give him his inheritance. Even when he came to his senses, he was just hoping to go home and be fed. He had no idea that his father watched for him every day or that he was probably getting reports on him. The father’s love never changed, however it was only after the prodigal came to himself, humbled himself, and returned home, that he established himself in that love.
In the same way, we may have been guilty of not really considering how high, deep, or wide God’s love is. We could just be guilty of getting what we can out of our Father, without realizing we are only getting an occasional splash compared to what He really has for us. No wonder Paul said that everyone should know this love. We cannot spread what we do not know.
The other brother was right there all the time and obviously had not realized his father’s love either. No doubt the Holy Spirit has already started you thinking about that. Establish yourself. Get in and stay in that place of love. Do not let anything drag you out of the living water.
