EVEN NOW
Therefore, change your hearts and stop being stubborn. (Deuteronomy 10:16 NLT)
Even now, if we are honest, we have stubborn moments. Think about that. We probably even have times where we resist what is right, more that we resist temptation. Think about that! Okay, let’s move on.
Today we celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. If He is your Lord, you rejoice in that. Even for those who do not call him Lord; He is still Lord. He is the Lord of creation. Nothing can change that. Just as nothing could change His trip to the cross; nothing can change the fact that He is Lord.
Before the time in the garden when Peter tried to explain to Jesus that He could not do what He was talking about and Jesus explained in no uncertain terms that He must do this thing; before time as we know it began, Jesus was and always will be Lord.
Then in the garden, when Jesus told them to pray so they would not enter into temptation and instead they slept; Jesus woke them reminding them that even though He warned them, still they went back to sleep.
I suppose we could try and take comfort in the fact that even the disciples themselves slept at very important times, but the fact that they slept should not be our excuse to sleep even now! We are fortunate. We do know the rest of the story!
Personally, I think they slept because they could not imagine that what Jesus said would happen, could ever really happen. Perhaps they relaxed and spiritualized it all. This of course goes on yet today. We sleep instead of praying because we have no idea what prayer accomplishes. We try and spiritualize both the promises and warnings of God. Lord please forgive me.
It is not that Jesus wants us to get all burdened down with things; rather He wants us to take them seriously enough to present them to Him! This is not just a day to go to church; this is a day to go to God. This is a day to throw all of our stubbornness aside and commit a resurrected life to our resurrected Lord. It is not a day to pull Christ out of our closet where we store Him and then put Him back until the next convenient time. This is a day launch into a greater life in Him.
It makes no difference where we are in our walk with God we can experience more of Him. If you know Him a little, you know that you need to know Him more. If you know Him a lot, you know that you hardly know Him at all. Paul said he wanted only to be found in Christ. David said He wanted just one thing, and that was the presence of God. Use this day to launch into a greater life in Christ. Use every day for what it is; a day that the Lord has made! Rejoice and be glad in it.
