EVERLASTING

I am ready to make an everlasting covenant with you(Isaiah 55:3b NLT)

Nothing lasts forever. Never is a long time. Have you ever said these words? Has anyone said them to you? I think that most of us can say yes to both of these questions, and in the natural, both statements are very true. However, when we are talking about God, forever is no problem. After all, His ways are above our ways and His thoughts are above our thoughts. If He says it, He can do it!

If there is one thing that we must get settled forever in our hearts, it is that God can and will do what He says. It is therefore up to us to bring our every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. I am sure that in the natural, there were times when Jesus wondered how His Father was going to pull off what He told Jesus to do. Jesus had the same demons of doubt trying to trip Him up as we do. He was trusting God to do all that He promised. That is how we need to live as well.

We all have a tendency when we look to God and the supernatural, to fall back on our natural understanding if He does not get it done right away. It is up to us to over come this tendency. The more determined we are to hold on to what God has said, the more we will see the fulfillment of His promises in our own lives.

In verse 13, God promises that where thorns and briers once grew, Cypress and Myrtle would sprout up. God’s Word will always work on the things inside of us as well as the things around us. Therefore, we can trust that He can change the thorny things about us and turn them into solid faith-filled character traits. After all, it is a thorny stem that holds a beautiful rose.

At the same time, we can expect God to take those not so pleasant things that come at us from the outside and fix them as well. In the natural, when you order something you expect it to come and you wait for it. If it does not show up right away, you make a call and see where it is. We should be even more trusting of God. If He says He is going to take care of things, then He will. It is ok to call and check on the order(with thanksgiving of course.) God can and will change us if we let Him and the things around us, if we trust Him.

He does these things for us, because we need them and most importantly because He loves us. He also does these things because they are everlasting signs of His power and His love. So the next time you think that things will never change, remember that the only thing that is truly forever is God. He is forever, His word is forever, His love is forever, and you are the object of His love. He sent His Word for you. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of God will stand forever.
